David Andolfatto, Legal and Illegal Trading of Bitcoin

04:41
Does bitcoin facilitate illegal trading? Sure, St. Louis Fed Economist David Andolfatto says, but so does the U.S. dollar, gold, etc. Bitcoin transactions travel wallet to wallet, where the wallet identities are disguised. In this sense, using bitcoins is like using U.S. cash in facilitating illegal trades. On the other hand, he points out, wallet histories are publically available (unlike U.S. cash transaction histories). He also notes that bitcoins support a great deal of legal trading. Can bitcoin be regulated? Some countries have issued an outright ban on the use of bitcoin and other virtual currencies. Can bitcoins be taxed? In the U.S., the IRS has recently ruled that, for tax purposes, bitcoins will be treated as property and not as currency. For example, when you buy then sell bitcoins, you must report the resulting capital gain or loss—compliance means added record-keeping costs. The effect of this and similar rulings serves to diminish the attractiveness of bitcoins as a currency—but enforcing a ban is close to impossible, Andolfatto says.

Bitcoin is the world's most popular virtual currency, and brings with it a new breed of digital multi-millionaires. When bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox virtually disappeared, many fortunes were lost. Can you put your trust in the virtual market? Why are governments so eager to shut the bitcoin marketplace down? Roger Ver, a bitcoin entrepreneur known as 'Bitcoin Jesus' is here to answer these questions. Watch the full Keiser Report: http://youtu.be/VPmkeio3jJQ In this episode of the Keiser Report, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert discuss Bitcoin 2.0. The currency application of Bitcoin was version 1.0, now there are dozens of new and innovative ideas riding the blockchain and, in the process, creating Capitalism 2.0. In the second half, Max interviews Reggie Middleton of BoomBustBlog.com about his own Bitcoin 2.0 application for hedging. Reggie says that if Bitcoin were a car, it would be one which also comes with its own road and which can go faster than any other car on the road and pay no tolls - it is an intelligent currency, unlike dumb fiat. Bitcoin Transaction Details - Part 1

15:47
A look at how a transaction is constructed This video is part of a larger online course, "From Barter to Bitcoin: Society, Technology and the Future of Money" run by Prof. Bill Maurer and Prof. Donald J. Patterson In addition to the video on YouTube there is a variety of other content available to students enrolled in the class. "In 2008, a person calling himself or herself or themselves Satoshi Nakamoto released a paper suggesting a system for an anonymous, peer-to-peer alternative money. Bitcoin was born. Although not the first digital currency ever proposed, nor the first challenger to fiat money, bitcoin is the first to have captured the broad imagination of speculators, coders, regulators, criminals and the mass media. This course puts Bitcoin in context: how do we understand money as a social, political and technological phenomenon? From discussions of ancient transactions to the rise of state-issued currencies, we will explore the social and technical aspects of bitcoin, its predecessors and potential successors, and how its features echo aspects of many different historical transaction systems. No prior knowledge of economics or computing is required. There is little academic writing on bitcoin. And this may be the first truly academic class on the topic. We want to put bitcoin in a wider perspective, to reflect on what it means for society, politics and economics, as well as how it helps us think about money both a social and a technical phenomenon. This class is not an advanced seminar on bitcoin--we will not be delving deeply into the inner workings of the system, but instead providing a bird's-eye overview with enough technical detail for you to be able to put media stories, hype and hope around bitcoin in perspective. Similarly, this is not a class in monetary economics--we won't go too deeply into monetary theory or policy, the money supply, or inflation. Instead the class invites you to think more deeply about one of the oldest systems of technology on the planet, and most ubiquitous: money, whether coin, cash, credit card or cryptocurrency, we humans have been making money for most of the past 10,000 years. How we do so in the future is a question bitcoin just maybe helps us answer."

Bitcoin Predictions, What Brings Us 2014?

03:05
Visit http://www.crypto-news.tk for more Bitcoin news and detailed information about 2014 Bitcoin Predictions, answers all your Bitcoin related questions. We are now a few weeks in 2014, as we all know 2013 was a hell of a year for Bitcoin. In the meantime I here a lot of people talking about 2014 Bitcoin predictions. What will this year bring us? Will we get another new high? Or will the price plumit back to arround 100 USD? In this video I try to explain what could happen with Bitcoin this year. We started the year 2013 with a Bitcoin value far below the current value of arround 800 USD. Mid april 2013 we had a new all time high of 266 USD, whereafter the price of 1 Bitcoin plumitted to only 50 USD. In november of 2013 we hit a new all time high of over 1200 USD with a total market capacity exceeding 10 billion USD. After this all time high the price of one Bitcoin went down to arround 400 USD, it now is stable arround 800 USD. What will bitcoin do in the year 2014? Many people claim Bitcoin can reach 5000 USD in 2014, in this article I try to explain what might happen. Max Keiser from the Max Keiser Report says that while all financial markets global wide have all time high depts, the price of a Bitcoin has risen 200% in the year 2013. There is only a limited supply of Bitcoins, which makes it rare. Keeping this in mind together with the value rising 200%, the only way Bitcoin can go is up. http://www.crypto-news.tk will answer all the questions you might still have after watching this video.

Gold standard vs Fiat vs Bitcoin - Truthloader

07:02
Over the past 100 years the global money supply has increased dramatically, leading to rising prices, ordinary people forced into heavy borrowing and government debt spiraling out of control - US national debt, for example, currently stands at more than US$17.5 trillion (as of 30/04/14). In response to this, some people have been calling for a return to the gold standard, a monetary system where the value of national currencies is directly linked to gold. This is different to the fiat money system currently in use the world over, where the value of national currencies is determined by governments. Other people, however, are suggesting that the cyrptocurrency Bitcoin could be the answer, with many asking if it's the "new gold standard". U.S. ATTACKS World's Largest BITCOIN Exchange - Is This The END of BITCOIN?

05:10
U.S. ATTACKS World's Largest BITCOIN Exchange - Is This The END of BITCOIN? Subscribe here for more Max Keiser & Financial crisis news: More bumps in the road are probably in store for Bitcoin. The virtual currency has seen some massive swings in value over the last several weeks, but that volatility is not likely to end soon, its lead developer suggested on Saturday. "We've been on a roller coaster ride," said Gavin Andresen, chief scientist at the Bitcoin Foundation, which provides much of the core backend development for the currency. "I expect for the next few years we're going to remain on a roller coaster ride," he said, speaking in front of a packed room of developers, enthusiasts, venture capitalists and other industry players at Bitcoin 2013, the first conference in Silicon Valley to be held on the topic. Bitcoin is a digital currency that is managed and traded on a peer-to-peer computer network. Often referred to as a form of "crypto-currency," it is intended to be a decentralized form of payment not regulated by any financial institution or governmental body. A variety of online retailers and a growing number of brick-and-mortar stores are now accepting Bitcoins, which can either be purchased through exchanges on the Internet or "mined" by using specialized hardware. Hitting some bumps But the growing attention the currency has experienced has come with numerous setbacks as well, in the form of hacks, the shutdown of various exchanges, seizure of accounts and huge selloffs in Bitcoin. In March, Bitcoins were trading for roughly US$30. Then for a brief period in April its price on the Tokyo-based exchange Mt. Gox skyrocketed to over $230. A couple of days later, its value plummeted to roughly $120 as a massive sell off forced Mt. Gox to temporarily shut down. This past week, Mt. Gox received a seizure order of its funds by the Department of Homeland Security, triggered by an alleged failure to comply with U.S. financial regulations. Despite the challenges, Bitcoin's Andresen is not deterred. "We have to be reliable and resilient," he said. The foundation, which currently just has two full-time staff, is looking to hire a Washington lawyer this year to engage with politicians and to help support the currency's growth. Hundreds of attendees are at the Bitcoin conference, with roughly 20 exhibitors offering a range of Bitcoin-related products such as digital wallets, specialized trading services, and analytical tools. "Star power" has even been provided by Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss , the brothers claiming ownership of the idea for Facebook, who delivered the opening keynote on Friday night Bitcoin supporters promise banking 'revolution' Some workers are now even being paid with new virtual currency that you can only spend online. Bitcoin threatens both the financial elite's monopoly over the economy and the online web of payment systems which have been used as a tool to crack down on free speech on the Internet, Amir Taaki, a bitcoin software developer, told RT. On Wednesday, The US Department of Homeland Security seized a payment processing account belonging to Mt. Gox, the largest international Bitcoin trader over claims the monetary exchange service had falsified financial documents. The US government has never hidden the fact that it is closely watching the virtual currency, which international regulators have thus far failed to keep a lid on. But while banks and governments have treated the Bitcoin payment system as an "existential threat" to current financial system, Taaki argues that the virtual currency epitomizes real free trade and is a necessary tool to maximize the benefits of a free and open market. Amir Taaki: The basic gist of it is, there is this network of people worldwide, and any person that joins the Bitcoin network is responsible for upholding it. The Bitcoin is actually a form of money, like the dollar, euro or pound, but it's virtual currency commodity price inflation forex currency trading fx currency trading euro converter exchange euros money currency currency rate currency converters money rate currency credit credit consolidation credit credit the capital card credit creditcard debit how do i get a credit report credit history report debit card credit rating investment capital capital investment free credit report credit line capital mortgage financial news cibc mortgage rates obama mortgage relief mortgage protection stock exchange what is apr online gold trading forex gold gold trade trade gold gold mine price of silver gold future gold funds keiser max kaiser forex investment investment forex online investment account bank how to investment funds bonds savings investments invest mutual fund mutual funds commodities hedge fund investment banking property investment investment banks

TSA stops man after "seeing Bitcoin" in bag

The Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, was created after 9/11 to strengthen the security of the US' transportation systems and ensure the freedom of movement for people and commerce. But with their increasingly strange rules and mishaps in the news lately, how are we to continue to trust in them to ensure our safety? They recently stopped a man when they "saw Bitcoin" in his bag, which is impossible, and they recently almost rejected a woman from entry to the airport because they weren't sure if a DC license was valid ID. Bitcoin Block Details

11:49
A look at the details of a bitcoin blockchain block This video is part of a larger online course, "From Barter to Bitcoin: Society, Technology and the Future of Money" run by Prof.

BREAKING: US Congressman Steve Stockman To Introduce First Bitcoin Bill

01:09
Go to http://followthecoin.com for up to date Bitcoin news (you can even follow your favorite coins!). Congressman Steve Stockman has introduced a Bitcoin Bill in an attempt to recognize virtual currency as currency. This is almost immediately following the announcement from the IRS, on March 25th 2014, that virtual currencies such as Bitcoin are officially considered property, and not currency. Why is this important? While virtual currencies are recognized by the US government as property you are required to pay capital gains tax on any transaction you do. This means that if you bought a Bitcoin at $100 and spent it when it was worth $600 you would have to pay taxes on the $500 increase in value on that Bitcoin. Interestingly enough, Rep. Stockman is the first member of U.S. Congress to accept Bitcoin contributions. U.S. states take lead in writing bitcoin rules

02:48
Numerous companies in the United States enable customers to pay for goods and services in virtual currencies. But since bitcoins are not regulated by the federal government, users face a maze of rules in the 50 states. \n "We may be looking at some type of model definitions, or model laws or regulations, and very likely recommendations to either our federal colleagues or to Congress," David Cotney, Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks, told Reuters on the sidelines of a public hearing into the issue on Friday. \n Cotney was appointed in February to head the new Emerging Payments Task Force, a group of nine members of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS). He said the task force had given itself roughly a year to complete the task. \n The task force was hoping for a clearer definition of which operators needed to be regulated and which ones did not, Cotney said in the interview. \n "Who's in and who's out? So if we can offer that (it) would be a ... big step," he said. Cotney'
BITCOIN - The PRO's & CON's

03:59
BITCOIN - The PRO's & CON's U.S. prosecutors in Manhattan are sitting on a multimillion-dollar bitcoin gold mine. And it could get much bigger. Federal authorities hauled in 29,655 units of the digital currency -- worth $27 million at current exchange rates -- through an official forfeiture by Bitcoin this week. The bitcoins had belonged to Silk Road, an anonymous online black market that authorities say was a conduit for purchases of drugs and computer hacking services -- even a place where assassins may have advertised. It was shuttered after an FBI raid in September, when agents took control of its server and arrested the man they say was its founder in San Francisco. A spokeswoman for Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for New York's Southern District, said Friday that the government is still trying to decide what to do with the forfeited bitcoins. The timing of any sale could make a big difference in the amount the government could realize. The baffling Bitcoin boom is either an exercise in self-delusion — a high-tech Ponzi scheme that will come crashing down — or an imaginative new Internet technology that could change how millions of people around the world conduct everyday business. There is little middle ground. Called a "digital currency," Bitcoin originated in early 2009 with a software program written by Satoshi Nakamoto. Who is Nakamoto? Good question. It's a pseudonym, and we don't know who's behind it — whether man or woman; individual or group; American, Japanese, Russian or some other nationality. But what seems clear is that Nakamoto owns bitcoins worth "hundreds of millions of dollars," says Jerry Brito, an analyst at the Mercatus Center of George Mason University and a Bitcoin enthusiast. You can do two things with bitcoins: buy stuff, just as with traditional money; and hold them as an investment or speculation, hoping their price will rise. Some shopping does occur with bitcoins. The first retail transaction is usually attributed to Laszlo Hanyecz, a computer programmer in Florida, who in May 2010 persuaded someone to order two pizzas for him in exchange for 10,000 bitcoins. Recently, Overstock.com — an online retailer — agreed to accept bitcoins; the Sacramento Kings basketball team will do likewise. According to coinmap.org, about 2,600 stores and businesses worldwide accept bitcoins, with concentrations in Western Europe, California and New York. Bitcoin's wild price fluctuations seem disqualifying on all counts. A business that accepts bitcoins takes an immediate risk that the funds will lose 5 percent or 10 percent of their worth before they can be converted into traditional money (dollars, euros, yen). By this logic, retail uses will remain limited. For similar reasons, bitcoins flunk as a store of value and unit of account. bitcoin "accept bitcoin" "bitcoin price" value dollar usd currency fed "federal reserve" nerd cryptocurrency bitpay business bitstamp profit investment investing "get rich quick" litecoin u.s. usa "united states" forex "forex trading" "currency exchange" "credit card" bank "bank account" cool hacker hack system matrix linux future 2014 "bitcoin wallet" world tech technology cash "pros and cons" security "litecoin mining" computer "bitcoin trading" shopping "agenda nwo" bitcoin news china chinese europe end the fed silver bullion gold alex jones infowars lindsey williams gerald celente max keiser btc-e exchange jim rogers soros bitcoin trends It seems like a scene out of a late night infomercial. A man steps out of a fancy car, or off of a big expensive yacht, and starts his sales speech. "Make thousands, tens of thousands, or hundreds of thousands of dollars all from the comfort of your own home. How?! By mining for bitcoin!" Dropping into everyone's lexicon late last year, bitcoin boomed in 2013, going from $13 to $900 on a roller coaster of a ride. Other cryptocurrencies called alt coins, like litecoin and peercoin, gained exposure through bitcoin's fame. Mining these coins can provide a significant income to anyone willing to spend the time and money. Here are five steps to take to start a cryptocurrency mining career. With over 90 different cryptocurrencies on the market, alt coin miners have a plethora of options to choose from. And just like stocks, there are blue chip coins and penny share coins. Blue chip cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and litecoin are considered safer coins to mine, offering more reliable payouts, as investors are actively looking to buy these digital coins. However, the hash rate, or the processing time and power it takes to mine a bitcoin, is much higher than on some of the penny-stock currencies. Pink sheet alt coins, like the meme-based dogecoin or the darknet-intended anoncoin, give miners better net-gain potential. For example, dogecoin is valued at $0.00004 per coin, or four hundredths of a cent.

Largest bitcoin exchange stops trading after hacking attacks

01:13
Originally published on February 26, 2014 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mt. Gox, the world's biggest bitcoin exchange, stopped trading on Monday after losing a large amount of the virtual currency in apparent hacking attacks that went unnoticed for years. Users can generate bitcoin transaction requests using computers or mobile devices. Every request enters the blockchain, a public ledger of sorts. The transaction is then confirmed by the other computers on the bitcoin network, usually within 10 minutes. Just like any other currency, users must trade their fiat currencies via exchanges like Mt. Gox to get bitcoins. However, in the case of certain exchanges like Mt Gox, these transactions are not verified on the bitcoin network, which can make the exchange vulnerable to hacking. Exchanges, including Mt. Gox, have a hot wallet that works like an ATM machine, or "cash float", in a register to pay customers. Mt. Gox used offline "cold storage" as a safe to deposit bitcoin reserves. The Japan-based exchange is believed to have been hit by repeated hacking attacks over the past few years, which eventually wiped out its entire cold storage. Citing a leaked document, Wired reported that the exchange had a leak in the link between its hot wallet and cold storage reserves, which are only online at limited times to transfer bitcoins between the two systems. The hacker reportedly used a known bug in the bitcoin protocol that had been fixed in the past, but Mt. Gox failed to update its own software running the exchange, which allowed the hacker to empty its entire cold storage. According to the New York Times, Mt. Gox has lost 744,000 bitcoins, worth around $418,400,000 at the current exchange rate, which constituted 6 percent of all bitcoins in circulation. Mt. Gox has received a subpoena from federal prosecutors in New York. Japanese authorities have also launched an investigation into the alleged theft. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Ron Paul on Bitcoin

04:22
Ron Paul, Former U.S. Congressman In conversation with Josh Richman, Political Reporter, Bay Area News Group The term "liberty" is so commonly used in our country that you might say it has become a mere cliché. But do we know what it means? What it promises? How it factors into our daily lives? And most important, can we recognize tyranny when it is sold to us disguised as a form of liberty? Paul posits that to believe in liberty is not to believe in any particular social and economic outcome. It is to trust in the spontaneous order that emerges when the state does not intervene in human volition and human cooperation. It permits people to work out their problems for themselves, build lives for themselves, take risks and accept responsibility for the results, and make their own decisions. In fact, Paul calls liberty the seed of America. See more at: http://www.commonwealthclub.org/events/2014-04-10/ron-paul-liberty-defined#sthash.GmNTVt45.dpuf

NYC College First In U.S. To Accept Bitcoin For Tuition

01:01
King's College a Christian liberal arts school in New York City, announced on Friday that it has entered into an agreement with Coin.co, making it the first accredited college in the United States to accept Bitcoin for "tuition, other expenses, and donations." The college's president, Dr. Gregory Alan Thornbury, said in a statement, "Allowing Bitcoin to be used to pay for a King's education decreases our costs while simultaneously allowing our students to be a part of this exciting new technology." Coin.co, unlike most credit card companies, does not charge a transaction fee, so using the emerging payment technology could be a money saver. Two other institutions — the University of Nicosia in Cyprus and the UK's University of Cumbria — already accept Bitcoin for tuition. http://rssfeeds.usatoday.com/~r/usatoday-NewsTopStories/~3/v5aAmXfeWIY/ http://www.wochit.com
