Hey everyone. Gem mining is a great alternative to training your mining skill. Decent experience rates as well as decent money made per hour. It's also not too click intensive. Hope you enjoy this one.
How’s it going guys, so I needed 80 mining for wilderness elite diaries and I wanted to make a video on how I trained mining to get the level needed. It’s not the best mining xp per hour, nor is it the best money per hour while mining, but I do think it’s a good alternative when you get sick of motherload mine or blast mining.
So I’m sure you can tell already, but I’m going to be going over gem mining in Shilo village. In order to efficiently train here, you’re going to need at least 52 mining and completed either the hard or elite diaries for karamja.
I recommend that while training here you have a dragon pickaxe, full prospector and a charged amulet of glory. In case some of you are not aware, a charged amulet of glory increases your chance of receiving a gem while mining. In the case of mining gems, it increases the hourly rate mined.
So after several hours of testing at 80 mining, I averaged over 50k each time, my best hour being shown on screen at 53k xp/h. As for the order I mined them in, the X indicates where I began mining them, and the line represents the path I took. The circle represents the deposit box. The method I used mined exactly 28 and filled up my inventory completely before depositing. A video is being shown in the background in case you have any confusion.
As for the loot in one hour, I managed to mine 812 gems. Here is a break down of the different gems I received.
So, in total, after one hour in the gem mines I managed to mine over 650k worth of gems. Red Topazes have shot up in price lately, which explains why the OSBuddy price is so different. Ignoring the price increase, I still would have managed to make just short of 550k gp per hour along with the 52k mining xp. Not bad for 80 mining.
If you’re curious about the chances of receiving each gem, here is something I found on the oldschool wiki you guys might find interesting.
This is not a money making guide for 2m+ per hour since I doubt this method will always be this good, but I just wanted to show this in the video. The margin between uncut and cut Red Topaz was huge. I figured I would lose money because if you weren’t aware, if you cut red topazes, you have a chance of crushing them. I know the crush rate depends on your crafting level and luckily I have 99 crafting. Turns out, the crush rate for red topaz was only about 5% at 99. So basically, I made a ton of money. If you have high crafting, try cutting the red topazes you mine, it may bring you more money.
