Silver Linings: The Early Days of Idaho's Silver Valley

58:40
Stretching 40 miles through the heart of northern Idaho, Silver Valley is a time capsule of the West. Deep within its valley walls, empires rose...and sometimes fell. Beyond the ribald tales, you will discover how the region's past has shaped what the Silver Valley is today...and why it still resonates with the spirit of those who sought its Silver Linings.

Simon Allford: “Constructing the Idea: The Essential and the ExtraOrdinary”

01:26:04
Simon Allford of Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM) will set out the ideas that have driven his practice’s approach to constructing ideas in architecture. Since its inception in the early 1980s, the practice, founded immediately after the partners completed their diplomas at the Bartlett School of Architecture, has grown from four founders to 400 people researching and constructing projects that test ideas through building. Allford works for public and private sector clients on a wide range of projects of very different scales (and types), and the examination of their successes (and failures!) in use has reinforced his student thesis and led him to eschew the conventions of specialization. Through this work he has developed the polemic for The Universal Building and an architectural take on the theory of convergence. Allford is currently working on large-scale buildings and collections of buildings in London, across England and in Amsterdam, Bratislava, Prague, Berlin, India, and America. The current programs for this collection includes cultural, commercial, residential, and academic facilities. Allford will focus his talk on the ideas that underpin the practice's thinking; how these has been made manifest in a series of built projects; and how these ideas continue to evolve and inform the next collection of projects.

Support the channel https://www.paypal.me/philippdruzhinin Ancient Burial hills or mounds. They are located everywhere in Russia, we are going to speculate on their origin, and relate them to mud flood of 19th century. The mounds were traditionally erected over the body of the deceased tribesman or the remnants of his cremation.

Gospel of Bartholomew (Questions of Bartholomew)

27:49
The Gospel of Bartholomew is a missing text amongst the New Testament apocrypha, mentioned in several early sources. It may be identical to either the Questions of Bartholomew, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (by Bartholomew), or neither. Early source references to the Gospel of Bartholomew: In the prologue to his commentary on Matthew, Jerome mentions a "Gospel of Bartholomew" among several other apocryphal gospels. The author of the Decretum Gelasianum includes "the Gospels in the name of Bartholomew" in a list of condemned or unacceptable scriptures. From "The Apocryphal New Testament" M. R. James-Translation and Notes Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1924 Introduction by M. R. James Jerome, in the prologue to his Commentary on Matthew, mentions a number of apocryphal Gospels -those according to the Egyptians, Thomas, Matthias, Bartholomew, the Twelve, Basilides, and Apelles: probably he depends upon Origen, for he himself disliked and avoided apocryphal books, with few exceptions; the Gospel according to the Hebrews, for instance, he hardly reckoned as apocryphal. Of this Gospel of Bartholomew we have no sort of description: we find it condemned in the Gelasian Decree, which may mean either that the compiler of the Decree knew a book of that name, or that he took it on trust from Jerome. In the pseudo-Dionysian writings two sentences are quoted from 'the divine Bartholomew,' and a third has just been brought to light from the kindred 'book of Hierotheus'. But one cannot be sure that these writers are quoting real books. We have, however, a writing attributed to Bartholomew which attained some popularity; the manuscripts do not call it a Gospel, but the Questions of Bartholomew.

8-year-old Coeur d'Alene boy digs up a mystery

02:33
As kids we all dream about finding buried treasure, but one 8-year-old Coeur d'Alene boy thinks he may have found a piece of North Idaho history. Last month, Troy Frye and his friend were playing with his grandpa near their home on Cherry Hill in Coeur d'Alene when he found something. At first Troy thought it was a dinosaur egg, but after showing his grandpa, they realized it looked like something else: A cannon ball. Troy and his family brought it to the Museum of North Idaho. Historian Robert Singletary says it's possible that the ball could have come from Fort Sherman, which was built in the 1870s where North Idaho College now stands. Artifacts from the fort have been found on the campus over the years, but nothing as large as a cannonball, and not this far away either. More than likely it appears the ball was used in equipment that crushed rock to help build roads and highways. If you ask Troy, he's pretty sure what he found. But for now, it remains a mystery.

1,000 years missing in History? part 2

01:42:14
If you know anything about ancient history then you know there is not one primary source for anything earlier than 1100 AD or CE, are all of those stories about Ceasar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra, made up by academia? to have scholarship and careers? so first, we have to establish just what ancient is. Baalbek is not just some big slabs on the ground it is a Temple city made for and by giants, academia has not one clue as to who even built it, but, they don't even mention the place, I think because they know that whoever it was, was the real Rome. The age it is not known. Velikovsky was all over that. an event like the JFK assassination will happen that opens your eyes to see there is a problem, then eventually there comes a time where you think everything you thought you knew is wrong. Baalbek giants somebody cleaned the place up for nothing to be found there, who? what is or isn't true about anything on Rome or Greece. We are seen as ignorant eaters. Lol, how ancient is ancient history really? a few hundred years? Their formula is simple and straightforward, war-killing-disease = profit, peace-good health- longevity = no profit, too many people, Scaliger has been brought up so I thought to learn a bit about him from a different source etc. After looking at a few sources it looks like he was a real scholar but, standing in the way of those wishing to have their way through the usurping then control of the institutions they threw events much further in the past and succeeded. Tony Robbins: How to Use Your Brain to Control Your Mind ( Tony Robbins Mindset )

39:17
As the saying goes, there are are two sides to every story. The story originator, the human brain, is no exception. The human brain is anatomically and functionally divided into two sides, or hemispheres. Each hemisphere has a distinct purpose. The left side is mainly involved in logic and reason. It loves lists and language, and interprets life in a concrete and literal way. The right brain is more creative and less black and white. It is the hemisphere of big emotions, is involved in the functions of empathy and self-reflection, and abstract interpretations. For a long time, conventional wisdom upheld that most of us were dominated by one hemisphere. The more creative and artistic were thought to be right brain dominant, and the science and math geeks were considered to be left brain dominant. However, emerging research has shown that when higher order cognition occurs, the entire brain becomes engaged. In fact, the most intelligent and highest functioning amongst us are not dominated by one side, but are adept at using both sides to ponder complex issues. These individuals have a well-integrated brain, in which both hemispheres disentangle difficult topics. Knowledge of the functions of the two hemispheres and the importance of integration can help you tackle challenging interpersonal dynamics and finesse even the most difficult interactions. When another individual expresses a negative opinion about the quality of your business, your product, or even your personal style, let neuroscience help you mitigate the conflict and respond. When you become emotionally affected by someone else's words, it is likely that person is speaking from the right brain, thereby activating your emotional side as well. Take your time and identify that this process is occurring. Next, use your left brain to describe the emotions in the room. For example, "I recognize you are upset that you were not given the service you expected from our company," or "I hear that you are questioning the decisions we made in our marketing plan. It would have been reassuring to the investors to have some immediate gains," or "I understand you are hurt and disappointed that you worked hard and did not get promoted. You were surprised by our choice, and that is a lot to process." By using the left side of your brain to describe difficult feelings, you communicate understanding and help the other person unpack their emotions. Science has shown that by using language to describe emotions, we can begin to handle them instead of succumbing to their power. This makes sense. Integrating both hemispheres of the brain leads to emotional and cognitive harmony, allowing us to see the world from a larger perspective. Knowledge of functional neuroanatomy of the brain can help you during difficult times. First, recognize when you or someone else is immersed in the stormy emotional world of the right brain. This is not the time to take action. Instead, first work towards bringing both sides of the brain together. Engage your left brain by applying language to describe how you or someone else is feeling. At this point, your goal is not to solve the issue, but to defuse big emotions with an objective and compassionate description. This will soften the emotional tone, and facilitate the integration of both hemispheres. Language and communication help to temper, not erase, negative feelings. When the left side of the brain is activated, your powers of deductive reasoning emerge. Now you are better equipped to use the integrated brain to help you or someone else through a difficult dilemma. Skillfully using your wisdom of the brain settles the mind and helps to stabilize dicey interpersonal interactions. This leads to more integrated thinking that will benefit communication skills and optimize collective problem solving.

THE ART OF MONEY GETTING by P. T. Barnum FULL AudioBook - Wealth - Money - Investing - Getting Rich - "Art of Money Getting, or, Golden Rules for Making Money" Originally published 1880 by P. T. Barnum FULL Audio Book - Wealth - Money - Investing - Getting Rich - Phineas Taylor Barnum (July 5, 1810 -- April 7, 1891) was an American showman, businessman, and entertainer, remembered for promoting celebrated hoaxes and for founding the circus that became the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. His successes may have made him the first "show business" millionaire. Although Barnum was also an author, publisher, philanthropist, and for some time a politician, he said of himself, "I am a showman by profession...and all the gilding shall make nothing else of me," and his personal aims were "to put money in his own coffers". Barnum "In the United States, where we have more land than people, it is not at all difficult for persons in good health to make money. In this comparatively new field there are so many avenues of success open, so many vocations which are not crowded, that any person of either sex who is willing, at least for the time being, to engage in any respectable occupation that offers, may find lucrative employment. Those who really desire to attain an independence, have only to set their minds upon it, and adopt the proper means, as they do in regard to any other object which they wish to accomplish, and the thing is easily done. But however easy it may be found to make money, I have no doubt many of my hearers will agree it is the most difficult thing in the world to keep it. The road to wealth is, as Dr. Franklin truly says, "as plain as the road to the mill." It consists simply in expending less than we earn; that seems to be a very simple problem. Mr. Micawber, one of those happy creations of the genial Dickens, puts the case in a strong light when he says that to have annual income of twenty pounds per annum, and spend twenty pounds and sixpence, is to be the most miserable of men; whereas, to have an income of only twenty pounds, and spend but nineteen pounds and sixpence is to be the happiest of mortals. Many of my readers may say, "we understand this: this is economy, and we know economy is wealth; we know we can't eat our cake and keep it also." Yet I beg to say that perhaps more cases of failure arise from mistakes on this point than almost any other. The fact is, many people think they understand economy when they really do not." .... The Future of Computational Journalism

01:27:05
Data science and algorithms are reshaping how the news is discovered and reported At a recent event bringing together voices from the School of Engineering and the School of Humanities and Sciences, two Stanford professors engaged in a moderated discussion about the evolving field of computational journalism. Jay Hamilton, the Hearst Professor of Communication and director of the Journalism Program, and Maneesh Agrawala, professor of computer science and director of the Brown Institute for Media Innovation, shared their complementary perspectives on the many questions facing journalism today and where they might lead tomorrow. The conversation centered on how converging social currents and disruptive technologies have roiled newsrooms on the local, national and international levels. Computational journalism, Hamilton said, can refer to the set of tools that journalists use to discover, tell or distribute stories. But it’s also “reporting by, through and about algorithms.” The Associated Press, for example, writes about 4,000 stories by algorithm each time companies’ quarterly earnings reports come out — a massive increase from the 300 or so companies that can be covered by human reporters. In addition to such computer-assisted reporting, Agrawala spoke about how computers can be used to synthesize audio and video stories and create visualizations that provide critical context for data. The two professors also spoke about the great need for journalists to find ways to hold algorithms — like the ones that curate our newsfeeds or influence public policies — accountable. “One of the questions that we face as a society is understanding some of the algorithms that are delivering information to us,” Agrawala said. Hamilton agreed, adding that the biggest problem he sees facing journalism right now are the stories that get missed due to the collapse of the business models of local newspapers. “If you look across the country, there are city councils that don’t have a reporter covering them, there are school boards voting and making decisions and nobody is watching. So I think that’s something where computational journalism can really make an impact,” he said. “If you have a strong interest in engineering and data, try to help us figure out the stories that go untold, especially at the local level.”
Martin Luther King Jr., "The Drum Major Instinct" FINAL Sermon --- COMPLETE

38:43
MLK's last SERMON... prophetically ends with his own eulogy, beginning at 35:07. Delivered to Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia on February 4, 1968. Not to be confused with his last SPEECH "I've Been to the Mountaintop" given two months later on April 3, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Also, there's an edited 19 minute version floating around... it's missing 3 sections and actually CUTS OFF HIS FINAL SENTENCE! Unbelievable... Comprehensive collection can be purchased here... https://amzn.to/2KkYhAJ TEXT: http://kingencyclopedia.stanford.edu/encyclopedia/documentsentry/doc_the_drum_major_instinct/ Synopsis: King's "Drum Major Instinct" sermon, given on 4 February 1968, was an adaptation of the 1952 homily ''Drum-Major Instincts'' by J. Wallace Hamilton. King encouraged his congregation to seek greatness, but to do so through service and love. King concluded the sermon by imagining his own funeral, downplaying his famous achievements and emphasizing his heart to do right.

Ken Burns & Henry Louis Gates, Jr. in conversation with Michel Martin

01:38:06
Documentarian Ken Burns and scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., join together to discuss the prevailing political fault line in the US: race. In this illuminating and cogent exchange, they examine why race is critical to their understanding of America and their work—and how, as a nation, we deal with race today. Their discussion is complemented with clips from Jackie Robinson, Burns' forthcoming epic about the impact and legacy of the first black baseball player to play in the major leagues, and Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise, Gates' chronicle of the civil rights movement culminating in the election of Obama. (Both films are scheduled to premiere on PBS in 2016.) Both figures have explored how race is part of the American fabric in their work. Burns’ landmark Emmy Award-winning television series The Civil War and Gates’ unprecedented four-part series African American Lives explore not just the role African-Americans have played throughout our history, but also how race, conceptions of race, and ideas about freedom and independence influence our politics and policies. They trace the historical significance of race from abolitionism to civil rights to the war on poverty—and consider what it means to have an African-American president.

Serenity Ridge Farm - Boones Mill, Franklin County Virginia

05:30
Serenity Ridge Farm is an LCF Group project consisting of 15 parcels mostly 5 acres or more. Many of the parcels have nice stream and pasture for horses or other animals. The home site are along a ridge top and have a nice view and mature hardwood trees provide a great private environment on each tract . A Grand Ridges road is a private access for all the parcels and is well established. Underground power is in place on each parcel along with an approved septic site making the parcels builder ready. Two homes are being built at this time on tracts 4 and 6 with more to follow. The view, location and beauty of each parcel has made this a popular project and only 3 parcels are currently available. (4-27-09). The drive time to Roanoke of about 15 minutes makes this a nice county environment and an easy commute. Out door recreation is abundant with Smith Mountain Lake and Philpot Lake in the county. Wild game and good hunting of deer, turkey, squirrel is normal. Hunting at Serenity Ridge Farm is limited the use of a bow and small caliper firearms. Owner financing is available on all the parcels with a small down payment.
