Australia's economy needs big investment in innovation, experts say

04:41
When Malcolm Turnbull took over as Prime Minister he promised that, with the mining boom over, innovation would be the key to unlocking jobs and growth. But, two-and-a-half years later, those responsible for commercialising new ideas say Australia is being left behind with sustained cuts to higher education and low business investment in research and development. One of the Government's own advisers says Australia is comparable to third world economies reliant on old industries like banking and mining, against countries like the US where the top companies are all high-tech. Chief economics correspondent Emma Alberici reports. Australian Property with a Healthy Production Profile - Copper Mountain

03:01
Copper Mountain Mining's newly acquired property in Australia could result in an annual production increase of 90 million pounds of copper. The Copper Mountain mine is located about 20 km south of Princeton, British Columbia and 300 km east of the port of Vancouver. The Copper Mountain mineral claims cover approximately 18,000 acres and consist primarily of 135 crown grants, 176 mineral claims and 14 mining leases. The property is accessible by a combination of highways and paved roads and is close to the port of Vancouver that provides service for shipment of copper concentrates. The Copper Mountain mine is a conventional open pit, truck and shovel operation. The mine utilizes a conventional crushing, grinding and flotation circuit to produce copper concentrates with gold and silver credits. The Company has an offtake agreement with Mitsubishi Material Corporation (MMC), where MMC purchases 100% of the mine’s concentrate at LME spot rates at the time of settlement. Based on reserves only, the mine’s current mine life is approximately 14 years and average annual production is approximately 90 million pounds of copper equivalent. Further potential exists through exploration and the potential integration of the Company’s nearby New Ingerbelle Project. The Company is evaluating operational alternatives to incorporate New Ingerbelle into the Copper Mountain mine plan. Eva Copper Project The permitted, development-ready Eva Copper Project is located 75 kilometres from the town of Cloncurry and 95 kilometres north-east of Mt Isa in north-west Queensland, Australia. The Project is envisioned to be a conventional open pit with a conventional crush, grind, flotation circuit. The property is accessible by air and road and has sufficient water and power available through a 220kV powerline. To see more videos like this one go to https://www.b-tv.com

The country escaped the global economic slump almost completely unscathed, thanks largely to its massive mining industry. A proposal to impose a 40 per cent tax on "super-profits" made by mining companies has now prompted an uproar among industry players. As you are probably aware mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. A talented Resume Writer will be skilled in selling your skills and wording the document in a way that includes all important key words. Australian Power Company to Reopen Coal Power Plant to Mine Bitcoin

03:17
Australian Power Company to Reopen Coal Power Plant to Mine Bitcoin An Australian power company have signed a contract with a cryptocurrency mining firm to provide them with cheap off-grid power. The IOT Group will be building a digital currency mining hub that’s actually inside a disused coal-fired power station in the Hunter Valley region. Off Grid Power Will Allow the IOT Group to Compete With Global Miners Typically, cryptocurrency mining operations happen in places where it’s cold and power is cheap. Locations like Siberia, Iceland, and Canada are often touted as the planet’s best. On paper, it seems as if setting up a mining facility in Australia would be a spectacularly bad move. It’s not cold there and the electricity is expensive. However, in what represents a historic deal, the mining company, the IOT Group, have signed a contract with Hunter Energy to provide them electricity off-grid. This will mean huge savings since the power will be sold at wholesale prices. Australian news publication, The Age, reported a statement made by the company: “The average consumer pays around 28 cents per kilowatt-hour, with what IOT are doing its pre-grid [price] is 8 cents and will be 5 cents at night time.” The rationale behind providing the cheap energy is to encourage cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation in Australia. Typically, companies have avoided the nation because of the high price of electricity. However, deals such as the one between the IOT Group and Hunter Energy are hoping to make it a more attractive location for startups in the space. The executive director of the first beneficiary of the rock bottom power is very optimistic about the development. Sean Neylon explained: “With these current prices, by having a blockchain application centre behind the grid offers cheaper power. It offers the potential to create a new Silicon Valley in Australia.” Since the rumours of a crackdown on mining operations in China earlier this year, operations have sprung up all over the world. Typically, they have appeared in locations that offer cheap energy, as well as a cold climate to help cool the high powered hardware. Chinese used to represent around 70% of the total mining power. This is anything but desirable for systems such as Bitcoin that purport to be decentralised. With developments such as the Australian one, along with nations Iceland and Canada harnessing natural energy to generate power to put towards crypto mining operations, the distribution of hashing power is much more widespread. This can only be a good thing for Bitcoin and other true blockchain projects.

'It's my knickers' - Lang and Rose Hancock's infamous 1986 interview | 60 Minutes Australia

It's like a romance out of 'Dynasty': the tough old prospector who struck it rich and his beautiful, strong-willed new wife - 40 years younger and with a mysterious background that's made her the target of vicious gossip. When a multi-millionaire Lang Hancock married his Philippines Rose it not only set tongues wagging, it raised eyebrows in the highest financial circles as the experts pondered the future of one of Australia's most important mining empires. The Hancocks couldn't care less about what people say and Rose Hancock curtly dismisses those who call her a 'gold-digger'. She is a woman, she says, who is born to a wealthy family and used to getting what she wants, as becomes clear when she takes Jana along for some clothes buying. Asked if Hancock allowed her a certain amount to spend, Rose replies: 'I couldn't really call it a budget. He asks me how much I need and I say 30, 40. That's thousands, of course.'. Rose urged Jana to accompany her to Paris in the family's jet for a proper shopping spree, but Jana simply didn't have the time. Huobi Australia - Blockchain 101 Ep 11 - Why havent we finished mining Bitcoins

01:11
For sustainability, the Bitcoin network adjusts its mining difficulty. Every 10 minutes, miners compete to solve a complex math problem to create the next block for Bitcoin rewards. If the processing power of the Bitcoin network keeps increasing, we will finish mining all Bitcoins in no time. To maintain the rate of new block generation at once every 10 minutes, Satoshi Nakamoto has designed the system to adjust the mining difficulty every two weeks, every 2016 blocks. As such, the adjusted difficulty will keep the new block generation rate at the expected time frame of 10 minutes. Currently, the difficulty is set at 480PH/s, about 68 billion times harder than mining the genesis block. That means, based on the current computing power, all miners need to perform 300 sextillion(3*10^23)hashes to find the right answer to mine the new block.
