http://www.freemathvideos.com In this video series I show how we determine the difference between a relation and a function. A function is a relation where every input value maps to exactly one output value. Every function can be written in function notation.

Learn how to determine the domain and range of a function from a set of points. The domain of a function is the set of all x-values and the range of a function is the set of all y-values. Therefore with coordinate points the x values are the first number and the y-values are the second number. The set of the x values is the domain and the set of the y-values is the range. http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/5086 This 80 minute intermediate algebra lesson focuses on finding the domain and range of relations and then progresses into the definition of a function, functional notation and finding inverses of functions This lesson will help you understand: - what a relation is - what a function is - how to find the domain and range of a relation, given the ordered pairs or graph - the vertical line test - f(x) and f^-1 (represents the inverse of a function; e.g. if f(x) = 3x + 7, find f^-1 (1) and f^-1 (-8)) - line of reflection - interchange the variables - restrict the domain This lesson contains explanations of the concepts and 18 example questions with step by step solutions plus 6 interactive review questions with solutions. Lesson that will help you with the fundamentals of this lesson: - 195 Graphing Linear Relations, x & y intercepts (http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/5076)

Learn how to determine whether relations such as equations, graphs, ordered pairs, mapping and tables represent a function. A function is defined as a rule which assigns an input to a unique output. Hence, one major requirement of a function is that the function yeilds one and only one result. Thus, equations, graphs, ordered pairs, mappings or tables where any of the input has more than one output does not meet the requirement of a function and hence is not a function. Our process will vary for each type of information given but the idea is the same. Does each input value map, relate, output to one unique y, output value. #functions #domainandrange
