South Australian Road Trip

59:27
I was inspired to take a road trip to South Australia on my Holidays. Naturally I took my planes and camera gear to get some footage of the journey. Along the way I visited the copper mining towns of the 1800's. It was at Burra SA where my Great, Great, Great Grandfather Joesph Harry arrived in 1860 to work the mines. Like all good road trips I had my share of emotional ups and downs, breakages and saw some amazing sights. I learned lots about the history of SA along the way. There was a very strong caravaning community out on the road and I made a few new friends on the way. As of June 2012, the population is approximately 153,075. The most important places to visit in Cairns are: The Great Barrier Reef, Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Kuranda Scenic Railway, Daintree and Cape Tribulation, Dine and Wine at the Atherton Tablelands and many more. Shell Australia recently brought together global and local technical experts and engine manufacturers to participate in the third annual Shell Mining and Transport Technology Forums held in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. The Shell Technology Forums provided customers the opportunity to have an open dialogue with Shell technical experts to discuss the challenges facing today's energy industry, and how to work together towards possible energy solutions. Shell is working with partners and focusing on key areas including integrated natural gas, biofuels, carbon capture and storage and energy efficiency. At the Shell Technology Forums, sessions were held on biodiesel and its implications, current and future Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) technologies, developments in engine technology, fluid management best practice and using technologically advanced products to help improve operations. Global Futurist and Thought Leader Dr Keith Suter was a guest speaker at the Forums, and said Shell has developed a technique called "scenario planning" to help think about the future of global energy demands. Scenario planning is not what's currently being suggested or what you would like to see happen, but considers the possibilities of change that are out there that we're not seeing yet. CSIRO - Mapping the Northparkes Mine (shorter version)

01:35
In April 2011, CSIRO researchers mapped over 17km of the Northparkes copper/gold mine in New South Wales, Australia. The mine operators required a locally accurate 3D surface model in order to determine whether and how large equipment could be moved through the decline. Vehicle localization underground was achieved using a spinning SICK LMS291. Specialized SLAM software developed at CSIRO allows the vehicle position to be tracked in real-time while simultaneously generating 3D point cloud maps. Two vertical lasers were also mounted to acquire data at uniform density for surface reconstruction. The data was collected in under two hours while driving a site vehicle at regular driving speeds (20-30kph), without disruption to mine operations. The final surface model can be generated within a few hours of acquisition. The resulting surface model is globally consistent and was georeferenced using available 2D mine plan data. The hardware used was previously constructed for other experiments, and due to the short turnaround time for this deployment, it was left mostly unchanged for this application. The plastic sheeting over the sensor payload was required to protect the equipment from dust suppression mist present in some areas of the mine. What will be the best markets for property in 2018?

34:04
Subscribe to Michael Yardney Podcast whether you're on the Apple or Android device. https://propertyupdate.com.au/category/michael-yardney-property-investment-expert/michael-yardney-podcast/ 2018 is going to be a very different year in property, so today we are going to discuss what is happening in each state around Australia and what you can expect to happen in our property markets. 2017 started with a bang and ended in a whimper. In the middle, foreign investment slowed down, we embraced stamp duty, and hiked land taxes. Other disincentives were given to foreign investors and APRA slowed down lending. Over the last property values rose 5.5 percent across all the combined capital cities. As always, the property markets were fragmented. Only Melbourne and Hobart record value growth over 10%. Perth and Darwin’s property values decreased. Once a year I conduct a series of seminars around Australia, and I will be joined by Dr. Andrew Wilson, Ken Raiss, and local property experts. If you would like to attend for free use the Promotion Code Podcast at  https://propertymarketupdate.com.au/ Today’s discussion includes: An update on the following: Sydney Property Market with Ahmad Imam There is still good upside for investment grade properties The market sentiment is subdued and investors are holding Invest for long term capital growth and consider borderless investing Prices in Sydney should rise this year, but not as much as the previous 12 months You can’t expect the same level of growth that we had over the last 4 or 5 years There will not be growth in secondary locations. This is a time to focus proven stable locations. People are looking at better class assets – a flight o quality. There is much less competition for the A grade assets because people are holding. Select the right location in the middle rings of Sydney and then find the right property there. Melbourne Property Market with Kate Forbes The fundamentals haven't changed – we’ll have another good year in property.   Last year we had 144,400 new residents. There are not a lot of vacancies – vacancy rates are around 1.8% The Melbourne property market grew by 10.1% last year Finance availability is cramping the number of people that can get into the market. Foreign investors have slowed because of finance challenges and new taxes. The introduction of a “Window Tax” for properties that have been vacant for six months. Will this lead to owners putting them on the market. Invest for the long term especially in the inner to middle ring affluent suburbs that are built out and have a reasonable supply cap. Growth corridors did well last year. As the markets are slowing these buyers will have more difficulty. As things slow down there is a flight to quality. Brisbane Property Market with Brett Warren Brisbane property had an overall growth of 2.45% last year, pulled down a bit by the apartment market. But there was solid growth of some housed -  even 10 and 15% growth in superior locations You need to buy the right property in the right location to outperform the markets. Jobs and employment bring certainty and higher demand for housing. The Gold Coast may be a good market in the short term, but it is volatile and influenced by tourism. There is not enough job opportunity for long term growth on the Gold Coast. 60% of jobs in Queensland are around Brisbane. The demand for property will be where the jobs will be. Brisbane doesn’t have urban sprawl and job opportunities in the outer suburbs. Buy in superior locations where all the boxes are ticked and demand is fairly high. Other Major Capital Cities of Australia Adelaide is still speculative. There weren’t a lot of growth drivers like jobs. Perth hasn’t bottomed yet. Sales volumes are down, but people are still waiting to see if it hits rock bottom. Significant oversupply of apartments in Perth. Hobart is still Australia’s most affordable capital city. The market is very small. This years hot spot can be next year’s not spot. Darwin is still suffering from the effects of the end of the mining boom. Cenberra is a two tiered market. Detached homes rose, but apartments a

Highbury Pumped Hydro Greater Adelaide video Apr 2018

08:39
Highbury Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Scheme uses two old quarries for a new purpose. Around 300m difference in elevation betwee the two ponds means each cycle of use will release around 1.25 GWh of energy. Advantages * very fast response times for this system. * hydro electricity schemes have longevity * close proximity to high tension power lines * close proximity to the Adelaide Metro Area * underground location of the pump/generator will eliminate any noise problems from the system for surrounding residents. This is a "closed system". No water from this project escapes to the surrounding environment. Earlier proposals for Pumped Hydro at Highbury were going to use potable (drinking) water from the nearby Kangaroo Creek Dam in the upper reaches of the Torrens River Gorge. The problem being the heavy metal contamination in the lower pond would have quickly polluted the drinking water. "Tilt Renewables' are proposing this development https://www.tiltrenewables.com/ There are 3 pumped hydro schemes in Australia * Wivenhoe Dam on Splityard Creek near Brisbane. http://www.seqwater.com.au/water-supply/dam-operations/wivenhoe-dam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-KSAANFJtM * Shoalhaven near Sydney https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoalhaven_Scheme There are 2 power stations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxoXSrM-nNU * Tumut 3 in the Snowy Mountains of NSW near Canberra. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOy8QaHpWag https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAsGDMpKtFY Micro-Hydro by WaterSA "SA Water has (micro) hydro-electric turbines at Hope Valley, Seacliff Park and the Adelaide Desalination plant, supplying about 7000MW hours per year, or two per cent of the utility’s annual energy use." http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/business/jobs/sa-water-looking-to-install-a-hydroelectric-unit-near-hahndorf-to-offset-costs-of-pumping-water-and-drive-down-energy-bills/news-story/d966551aac795a6d290e3a508bde27b2 Micro-Hydro by VicWater. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udbgKVJtwtI

Coal & Allied and Coal Services Health: Seat Weight Limit Project

03:07
Coal & Allied identified that some miners at their Hunter Valley operations exceeded maximum weight ratings of mobile equipment seats, potentially exposing them to greater risk of acute and chronic back injuries. Coal & Allied in conjunction with Coal Services Health implemented a strategy to address this issue in a considerate and sensitive manner. A site based weight management programme achieved success in working with miners and their families to lose weight, improve lifestyle habits and reduce the risk of injury while at work.

Autonomous flight sprayer drone with RTK

07:46
Autonomous flight sprayer drone with RTK http://www.joyancetech.com/html/sprayer/parts/RTK_GPS_sprayer_drone.html Real Time Kinematic(RTK) Differential Kit RTK is especially designed for high-precision flight of the UAVs. Dual antenna differential module Cooperate with RTK differential base station to provide the cm-level position precision but also orientate the air craft precisely through double antennae. Compared with the traditional orientation by magnetic compass, the double-antenna orientation way can eliminate the influence of magnetic interference and ensure the flight safety of the aircraft under the high voltage wire and in the mining area with strong magnetic interference. DGPS RECEIVER AIR – Ultimate supports all existing satellite navigation systems. The received frequencies include GPS L1, L2, L2C, GLONASS L1, L2, BDS B1, B2, and GALILEO E1, E5. It can use the dual-frequency signals of GPS, GLONASS and BDS at the same time for positioning as well as RTK calculating. With higher positioning accuracy, it is more widely applied. RTK portable base station The differential system of the portable base station consists of one-piece portable base station, data link and differential module. In actual work, the position data of the ground base station is broadcast in real time through data link. The differential module integrates the data from satellite and the position information received by the on board data link terminal for RTK calculation, so as to realize the cm-level high-precision positioning. PS: RTK is expensive, and it is optional.

The future of Australian manufacturing: Manufacturing Skills Australia's 2013 Environmental Scan

03:05
To find out more about the future of manufacturing in Australia download Manufacturing Skills Australia's (MSA) 2013 Environmental Scan (EScan) at www.mskills.com.au. This video provides an overview of MSA's EScan, and discusses the elephant in the room... The myth that the manufacturing sector is about to kick the bucket. Manufacturing is facing many challenges but did you know for every dollar manufacturing makes generates $1.74 in other sectors and every manufacturing job results in up to five jobs across the country. "A healthy manufacturing sector is a must for a must for any advanced economy with ambitions to maintain economic, environmental and social well being." Manufacturing has to change and adapt to remain competitive. We can't compete in price but a highly skilled workforce that produces high quality goods and top service can. Manufacturers need the right skills to be able to soar in the Asian century and keep Australia strong in a changing global economy. MSA works directly with enterprises to help identify where and how they can increase their skills and improve productivity and increase their competitiveness. MSA also helps enterprises access initiatives like the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF). Employees are the key to giving enterprises their competitive edge. So, is manufacturing about to kick the buck? NO, the myth is busted. MSA is helping manufacturing thrive. Find out more and download the 2013 EScan now at www.mskills.com.au.
