Another LoloYodel two-video angle remix (see credits below). To see the entire show, go to my Channel & "Playlist".
These 1990 European shows were some of the The Best of The Grateful Dead ! Granted "amateur" videos but to have two video angles, with such visual diversity, is truely an addition to our viewing and auditive pleasure. Forget color resolution and any other puritanical bull---t, enjoy this !
VIDEOS : with my habitual gratitude and thanks for all whose who previously filmed, produced and shared the originals.
7 months after the truly spectacular and sonically unique East-Coast Spring 1990 Tour (Landover, Albany, Nassau ...), but just 3 months after the tragic death of the beloved keyboardist Brent Mydland (July 26th), The Grateful Dead embarked on what became their very strong European Tour, their 1st in 9 years (1981) which started in Sweden on October 13th (jet lag and all ...), then Germany where it begins to pick up, then France ... ! The Tour ended on November 1st at Wembley, London UK.
All of these European shows, beyond their European flavour, were unique in that they were in relatively small 4000-5000 seat venues, versus the average 40000+ seat coliseums, if not stadiums, that the Dead were beginning to play in the USA. And I'm sure that the Grateful Dead were not oblivious to that "intimacy".
Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby are there to replace Mydland on keyboards ...
Video One : (Rasensteine) Master 8mm PAL Tape : Sony Camcorder 75E ~ Hama Converter 2x ...
Left of stage, rare FLOOR LEVEL ANGLE, colorful, close
and intimate but OFTEN SHAKY !
I reduced the color-saturation by 125% to try and find
better visual harmony with the darker "Lazy Cow" video.
Video Two : (Lazy Cow) captured by Ray B, synch/authored by BigWuRock : AUD (Tripod) ~ 2nd Gen VHS Master: JVC Single Tube Camera ...
Left of stage, very DARK but stable. I increased "contrast"
and decreased "saturation" and "red gamma" by about
This video was used essentially as a "patch" when Video
One was in left-field (shaking, off-track, off-target ...)
Audio : Soundboard from the Lazy Cow video with thanks and gratitude !
These videos (mixed together) should give much greater viewer pleasure.
Jack Straw (video 1 rather shaky)
Mississippi Half-Step ~
Friend Of The Devil
Black Throated Wind
Jack a Roe (90% Rasenteine, video 1)
Paint My Masterpiece
Let It Grow ~ (long & sweet outro Horsnby jam)
Box Of Rain
LoloYodel notes (set one) :
Rasensteine's video is very cool : sometime I have the impression of seeing Bobby's tonsil's ! and Jerry is big !
Let it Grow : to fit my 15 min. YouTube cap, I had to cut out the 1st 1 min (with some "fun" preparations : jerry drying his eye-brows, phil in front of his monitors ...) as well as the last 1 minute of the Hornsby piano "outro" jam ... (which you will find however at the start of the following song, Box of Rain)
Eyes of the World ~
Samson & Delilah
Ship of Fools
Dark Star ~
Dark Star ~
Throwin' Stones ~
Not Fade Away
encore: One More Saturday Night
LoloYodel notes (set two) :
A very thorough set 2 with an "Eyes" (a recent set 2 opener) and a real & cool jam-transition into "Samson".
Ship of Fools : with a few fumbled lyrics by Jerry.
Sweet "Dark Star" (Rasenteine's video is a bit too shaky ... but clearly acceptable !)
end space ~ "Dark Star" : the Dark Star returns at 1:33
Throwin' Stones : Jerry into the groove 8:23
Not Fade Away : cool, visually various & active.
