The Tragedy Of Mount Isa - 1965

03:49
Mount Isa, today very much a ghost town rather than Australia's largest copper producer and major source of lead and zinc. The industrial dispute stretching into months of deadlock has caused a complete shutdown of underground mining, and the resultant economic repercussion are little short of disastrous. Every working day this huge plant lies idle costs Australia a loss in export income of 135,000. Obviously, millions of pounds are involved. Intervening, the Queensland Govenment issued emergency orders in Council, principally aimed at preventing Labour Council President, McMahon, and unofficials miner's leader, Pat Mackie from returning to Mount Isa, after Trade union-Fund Raising discussions in Sydney. This is a memorial to Campbell Miles, who first discovered mineral in the Mount Isa area in 1923. In those days isa was a cattle town and transit point for the wide-spread stations throughout the channel country. It was, and still is, a hard, rugged expanse which could perhaps best enjoy the typical description of a "thirsty brown land". The hill country on the outskirts of Mount Isa, where prospectors search for the bonanza, and which, when it was found, turned out to be a virtual mountain of copper. Active mining commenced in 1932, and the first signs of a vast industry began to show. Isolated from civilization, the attraction of big money brought miners to work, and then to stay, with their families to work, as the town continued its growth. Preparing for compulsory conferences aimed at settlement, representatives of unions involved. JACK DEVERAUX, HARRY PEEBLES and COL. EMERY. Another official involved, the President of the Queensland Trades and Labour Council JACK EGERTON seen here with PAT MACKIE. Project Camelot interviews Jessica: A Crystal Child Speaks Out

52:23
Project Camelot interviews Jessica: A Crystal Child Speaks Out Sedona, Arizona, December 2008 http://projectcamelot.org/jessica_crystal_child.html We met Jessica at the NEXUS conference in Australia in October 2008. She was in tears at the end of our presentation and said that she had to talk with us. A young Australian had seen her home-made YouTube video and had generously personally sponsored her long trip from Vancouver to Brisbane. We salute him for this, and he knows who he is. We realized that it might be interesting (and valuable to many) to interview Jessica. Seeing her as a Crystal Child, we took the decision to include her among our cadre of witnesses as a representative of the younger and very awakened generation who are well-informed, deeply concerned about world events, and aware of the need for mankind to grow spiritually in order to transcend the myriad of problems we all face together. In this 50 minute video Jessica speaks openly and emotionally about her personal journey, her family, and some of the bewildering experiences she has encountered. Her weaknesses are her dyslexia, and that she has not yet fully integrated her many experiences and perceptions; her strengths are her openness and her determination to bring a message to those who can hear it from her. She sees herself as a newly-arrived teacher and a messenger, and she probably is both of those things. Like all of us, she still has a long way to go in her journey, and has much to learn. But this is why we are all here, and the choice we make is to help one another as best we can. We are delighted to help present her message to the world. Mining families support the Newcastle Knights in Tamworth

02:09
The Newcastle Knights in the NRL support the contribution of mining families across NSW. In Tamworth, the team fought hard for an incredible 22-20 win over the Wests Tigers in front of a packed Scully Park, including hundreds of people associated with the mining industry. Like the Simm family. Grant, Wendy and the kids. They're local people. They're hard working people. They love their town and they love the Knights. And they were proud to see the team play in the replica mining-his vis shirt in Tamworth, both the jersey and the town so close to their hearts. There are so many past and present Newcastle Knights players that are associated with the mining industry. And we're proud to partner with the club to demonstrate the contribution of our mining families and to celebrate the good things mining brings. Every team needs great supporters. Show your support using #voiceformining.

Coal Seam Greed - The mining hoax that got out of control

02:29
Coal Seam Greed was going to be a short satire showing Katso and Nowhereman posing as a mining company called Reed Gas and erecting notices stating their intent to explore for unconventional gas or CSG in inner-city Brisbane. The idea was that residents would see the signs, phone and leave messages in response, which would then be incorporated into the video. As luck would have it, one of the parks they put signs in had previously been fenced off for genuine earthworks. A few notices later, and Katso and Nowhereman had their very first coal seam gas exploration in Brisbane. Angry residents did call and leave messages... so did a confused council, a very stressed mining minister's office, the company they said they were a subsidiary of and a curious Chanel 9 news... The entire project was captured on video and for no more than $50, it was an extremely effective action. Follow the link to watch on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ecu5SCYyWGU
ONExCHOICE: Priscilla Sutton at TEDxBrisbane

Priscilla, an amputee, started working on a fun creative project back in 2010. It started by Priscilla recycling her own old prosthetic legs she had tucked away in the cupboard, and then she collected others from all over Australia, America and Laos, and the result was a very popular exhibition at the Brisbane Powerhouse that year, followed by another successful exhibition in London during the 2012 Paralympics. In this amazing talk, hear the journey along the way. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
