Every day, Thorunn dedicates countless hours keeping on top of employment legislation changes – however big or small – and disseminates them in an accessible manner to relevant industry personnel. She is also a fervent supporter of small to medium businesses in Australia. She understands that these businesses often do not have in-house legal or HR departments, making it difficult for employers to identify or interpret the frequent legislation updates released by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) throughout the year. To support businesses, Thorunn creates monthly videos to recap significant workplace legislation updates and changes that were announced for that month. She simplifies complex legal terms and condenses lengthy updates for busy business owners to view on the go. ———————————— SUBSCRIBE for more updates and stories: https://www.youtube.com/user/Employsure/ CONTACT Email: [email protected] Website: https://employsure.com.au/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/employsure.com.au/ Linkedin: https://au.linkedin.com/company/employsure Twitter: https://twitter.com/Employsure Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thisisemploysure/

Extraordinary People That Were Wage Earners
Extraordinary People That Were Wage Earners Blog: www.nature-preneur.com This video is about some wage earners who applied the process I've been talking about to do extraordinary things. Nathan was making really good money as a metallurgist in the mining industry but he hated his job and certainly wasn't happy with the long hours. Paul suggested he point his knowledge and skill at consultancy instead of the employer. His first contract was worth multiple millions of dollars with a Singaporean company. The leather bound proposal looked a million dollars covered in gold leaf. He had to learn new marketing skills instead of simply putting a bit of paper in the mail which most people do. Nathan always wanted to be home with his young family, spending time with his wife and two young children. No more sleepless nights, no more stress and no more missing out on family and friends because he had to be away for work. What a great outcome and now he has a lifestyle he wants. This is John and Annette. John was a health and safety officer away on the oil rigs. It was long swings with lots of time away, then along comes his new born son and he wants to be an involved father. Within a few short years, they get rid of all their debt, then they took two years off and took Blake into the world of experience before he had to start school, so they could capture the precious times you can never reclaim. Now they have the fun of whatever lifestyle they want because now they can support it. Again, they took what they knew and pointed it at an entrepreneurial way. This is Damien a talented chippy, a carpenter. He could take a run down old place and turn it into a silver purse so to speak. That was his skillset but he was doing it for other people working for wages. He took exactly the same skills but developed them through entrepreneurial thinking. He went from $100,000 per annum to $9.8 million turnover in his own company winning all sorts of prizes for his talents and skills. That would never have been open to him had he stayed as an employee on wages. Marco Robinson. In 2004 he was dead flat broke. bored and financially frustrated, life of struggle. foundation called FEM. He is a number one best selling author of "Close the Deal and Suddenly Grow Rich", he holds world records in sales and generates an eight figure income owning more than one hundred properties worldwide. Again, he can now just enjoy whatever he wants to do. This is Nikki. Nikki had a growing family of three kids in Perth but no support when he was away. The kids had to play on the street as they had no backyard. sell the house and move back to Melbourne for family support. selling costs, relocation costs, purchasing costs, round trip to work of 8000 km. stress on family and time. If its a problem for her then its a problem for thousands of others. Nikki created FIFOFamilies. on speed dial. In 2013 she won the young entrepreneurs award in Perth and in early 2014 she won two 40 under 40 awards. You only take steps forward. Here's an engineer, an accountant and a business coach. cheque is $192,000 and $480,000. This is Allen who didn't have a product so he packaged Paul's intellectual property and pointed it to the enterprise market, now he's making a handsome return. Lisa was a travel agent, sick of jetting around, wanted a job as a dump truck driver in the mining industry. stuck in long hours on difficult swings, night shifts in the mining industry. no time for herself, no time for relationships and was always tired with one week on day shift and another week on night shift. She started with an eBook then MP3's and started selling them online. "How do you get a job driving dump trucks in the mining industry?" In 2013 she was nominated for outstanding women in the mining industry award. Lisa was nominated as the sixth most influential woman in mining. Same league as Gina Rinehart, managing directors, general managers and executive officers. In 2014 she was nominated in the top 100 most influential women in mining worldwide for the changes she is making. She just won a really prestigious prize because she was able to improve the efficiency of dump trucks in a male dominated area that's been going for over a hundred years. Her insight as a dump truck driver improved trucking efficiency by 18% which is worth billions of dollars to a mining company. The single greatest thing they have in common is they took their existing knowledge and turned it into entrepreneurial capital. If I can, if they can, you can because we have all gone before you and achieved our goals. Everyone has value to offer the world and we can help because success is the same process and it all begins with a thought form. I want to go here instead of here. Stay tuned for An Invitation To Flex Your Mind For Entrepreneurial Success Until then its bye from me.

‘Women Who Rock’ In Mining - PDAC 2015
Kitco News continues its coverage of PDAC 2015 with Elena Mayer, founder of ‘Women Who Rock,’ a social club for women in the mining industry. Mayer also works in mining for PwC and shares her experiences as a woman in the sector. “Women now represent [only] 10% of the industry,” she says, adding that although the number is growing, it is still quite small. Mayer says she decided to found her own organization after meeting with women at PDAC 2014, and continues to find opportunities, one of which includes an auction event with big names in the mining space. This auction included Pierre Lassonde, Rob McEwen and others, who were all willing to offer mentorship time to the individuals participating in the event. “This idea of auctioning mentorship time actually turned out to be pretty successful,” Mayer says. She adds that although panelists were only supposed to offer one hour of their time, they were actually open to being mentors on a consistent basis. Tune in now to our continued coverage of the world’s largest mining convention. Kitco News, March 5, 2015. How Amazon Paid $0 Federal Income Tax in 2018
Amazon paid $0 in federal income taxes in 2018. On top of that, the company also received a multi-million dollar tax rebate from the federal government. How does the company do it? President Trump's tax cuts, aggressive revenue reinvestment, years of R&D, and employee stock compensation all helped. Does America have a corporate income tax problem? Amazon is one of the world's most valuable companies, valued at nearly $800 billion, and the e-commerce giant pulled in $232.9 billion in global revenue in 2018. And yet, Amazon's federal tax bill this year: $0. For the second year in a row. In fact, Amazon is actually getting a federal tax refund of $129 million this year, due in part to a combination of tax credits and deductions. This is despite the fact that Amazon nearly doubled its taxable income in 2018 to $11.2 billion, from $5.6 billion a year earlier. In other words, Amazon is basically paying a -1 percent federal income tax rate this year after reportedly paying a federal rate of more than 11 percent between 2011 and 2016, according to The Week. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who has criticized Amazon in the past for not paying higher federal taxes, took to Twitter to point out that any Amazon Prime member paid more for that program's annual fee ($119) than the company paid in federal taxes. Prime has 100 million subscribers. "Amazon pays all the taxes we are required to pay in the U.S. and every country where we operate, including paying $2.6 billion in corporate tax and reporting $3.4 billion in tax expense over the last three years," an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNBC Make It. Amazon reported its sizable federal refund in a recent corporate filing for the company's fourth-quarter earnings report. However, Amazon also notes in that filing that it will pay $756 million in total taxes this year, between state and international taxes. A report this week from the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, or ITEP, a nonpartisan and nonprofit tax policy think tank, pointed out the fact that Amazon will not pay federal taxes for the second year in a row. In fact, last year, Amazon received an even larger refund, getting $137 million from the federal government. » Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC » Subscribe to CNBC TV: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCtelevision » Subscribe to CNBC Classic: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBCclassic About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. How Do Producers Make Money In The Streaming Era? | For The Record
Last month, several songwriters and producers spoke out against Spotify for appealing a controversial ruling that would increase royalty rates for songwriters by 44 percent. The open letter, which was signed by big names like Murda Beatz, Babyface, T-Minus, and Ludwig Göransson, reignited a discussion about how the creative forces that work behind the scenes in the music industry make a living in the streaming era. On this week’s episode of 'For The Record,' Genius' Head of Artist Relations Rob Markman sat down with Grammy-winning producer !llmind and Shade 45 DJ Statik Selektah, who has collaborated with Eminem, Freddie Gibbs, and Joey Bada$$, to delve into the specifics of how producers make money in 2019. Both Statik and !llmind agreed that the days of receiving large upfront fees for a beat are long gone. China to lay off 1.8 million workers in its Coal and Steel Industry
http://www.illuminatisilver.com http://www.facebook.com/illuminatisilver China to lay off 1 8 million workers in its Coal and Steel Industry Today is Monday 29th February 2016 and we are briefly commenting on a Reuters Report out today highlighting that China plans to lay off 1.8 million workers in its Coal and Steel Industry. Yin Weimin, the Minister for Human Resources and Social Security, told a news conference that 1.3 million workers in the coal sector could lose their jobs, plus 500,000 from the steel sector. China's coal and steel sectors employ about 12 million workers, according to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics. These 1.8 million jobs represent approximately 15% of the workforce and it’s aimed to reduce industrial over-capacity. The central government will allocate 100 billion yuan ($15.27 billion) over the next two years to relocate these workers. The world's second-largest economy grew 6.9% in 2015, the weakest in 25 years, and the government aims to achieve economic growth of between 6.5- 6.7% in 2016. In 2015, the contribution from the services sector to GDP climbed to 50.5% surpassing the 50% level for the first time, and showing China’s intent to move to a more services based economy. As we stated in previous videos, the economic down-turn is real, and China should be watched closely. This is yet another indication that all is not well with the Chinese economy, and if, as many believe, the Government figures are, let’s just say ‘not as accurate as they could be’, its position is far worse than suggested. If this malaise permeates other sectors it could very well suggest that the Industrial demand for silver may not look too bright in the short term. Why College Is So Expensive In America
College in the United States is expensive. The cost of higher education just keeps going up. Tuition costs at both public and private universities have doubled since the late 80s, while accounting for inflation. "I think that it's so ingrained in your head that you have to go to college, that college is the next step after graduation," said Jarret Freeman, a college graduate with roughly $50,000 in student debt. "I think in hindsight, I see that college is not for everyone." But a college education is becoming more and more necessary to succeed in today's economy. Georgetown University estimates that by 2020, 65 percent of all jobs will require more than a high school degree. Students graduate with an average of $37,172 in student loan debt. It all adds up to $1.5 trillion across the country. Watch the video above to learn how higher education became big business, hear from former students facing mounting debt and explore why it's so important to solve the student debt crisis.» Subscribe to CNBC: http://cnb.cx/SubscribeCNBC About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. Roger Atkins - This is our story - TV ad
This country's most precious resource is our children, and Australian Mining is helping to unearth their talent. The man who's leading the charge is Roger Atkins. Roger used to drive trucks for a living, but after receiving his Bachelor of Education in 1991, he worked his way to becoming a School Principal in Gladstone. He's now the director of the Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA), making Roger the headmaster of Australia's biggest school. Formed in 2005, the QMEA's focus is to help students develop successful careers in the mining industry. The QMEA is a partnership between the Queensland Government and the Queensland Resources Council, working across 34 state, independent and catholic Queensland schools, encompassing over 20,000 high school students. This partnership between school and industry is a world-first that offers Australian students a clear pathway from school to industry. The QMEA operates as a 'virtual' academy whose teams work directly with students and teachers to provide direct access to employment in the resources sector through programs and a niche curriculum across four different pathways - operator, trade, technical and professional. This provides not only the trades people and engineers of tomorrow, but also future HR professionals, environmental specialists, accountants, service staff and much more. As Roger says, "Through the QMEA, local high school students will now have the information, incentive and encouragement they need to forge rewarding careers in a world class local industry". This encouragement exists in the form of several innovative awards and scholarships Roger has introduced with the help of the mining industry. This year, six students were granted QMEA Awards, receiving $2000 scholarships to assist in future study and training in the resources industry. In fact, Roger has forged many firsts, ensuring school kids experience hands-on training by actually getting onto mining sites. This practical experience prior to leaving school has resulted in an 86% retention rate for QMEA apprentices versus the industry standard of 60%. Another great achievement of the QMEA is that it has helped revitalize regional areas by offering local kids long term career prospects in the area they grew up. The QMEA's expansion into the Surat Basin is the perfect example. "We are as excited as the school communities are in recognising the opportunities on offer." This includes various indigenous apprenticeships and traineeships. The area's bright future would not be possible without support from Australian Mining. As Roger says, "We are indebted to our three coal seam gas company sponsors -- Origin Energy, QGC and Santos -- for their significant vote of confidence in the region". The QMEA's success has continued with Xstrata Coal and Wandoan State School recently forming a partnership. The Wandoan Education Partnership is part of Xstrata Coal's commitment the region, providing $720,000 over three years to programs for students at the Wandoan and Taroom State Schools and Miles State High School. Three additional schools are set to come on board in the near future. It's this kind of co-operation between the education department and industry that will help prevent a skills shortage in the mining sector, providing jobs for plenty of Australians. Roger says it best; "there is no better fit for the future than home-grown talent and expertise." Twenty years ago, Roger Atkins drove trucks across the resource regions of Queensland. Now, with the help of Australian Mining, he's driving the future of Australia in the same area.

Environmentally Sound Practices in the Aggregates Industry: Chapter 06: Community Relations and Land Reclamation
This is clip 6 of 7 for this video. The aesthetics of the mine site should be appealing to the community to promote a positive public image. Some mining sites will hold an open house so neighbors can tour the operation. Safety is paramount onsite for workers and visitors. Land is revegitated as the mining operation no longer needs it. These reclaimed lands can become wildlife preserves and parks. These practices will improve community relations for the entire mining industry. De Beers uses BT and Cisco digital solutions to set global standards.
Optimized global network assures miners’ safety and sparkling performance for De Beers , the world’s largest diamond producer. Find out more : https://www.globalservices.bt.com Video transcript : Speaker: Tom Ormsby, Head of Corporate Affairs, Canada, De Beers Group of Companies De Beers is the world’s leading diamond company by value, and we also are very influential in exploration, technologies, right through to the eventual retail piece as well. Speaker: James Ross, Head of Information Management, Canada and US, De Beers Group of Companies BT has been a longstanding partner of Anglo American and the De Beers Group of Companies. One of the only global vendors that had the breadth and reach to support the business in the many regions that we operate in. Speaker: James Ross The BT IP Connect Global network has enabled better collaboration and access to data points from various locations. Speaker: Tom Ormsby With our partnership with BT we are doing things differently in Canada, because all our mines are hundreds of kilometres away from the nearest government infrastructure. Speaker: James Ross As a result of that our people do live there about six months of the year. This means we have to allow them to have a phone conversation, do their banking using video chat and Face Time and other type of mechanisms. Speaker: James Ross We use class of service technologies to ensure that the communications are very robust and of high quality, and we’re using satellites and microwaves for additional bandwidth. Speaker: Tom Ormsby That kind of innovation has to be there for us because we have to have the security assurance that our products are safe, our people are safe in order to deliver the diamonds in a safe and responsible way. Speaker: James Ross We use WAN acceleration products to reduce our costs, while continuing to provide fast, robust networks. BT has helped us configure these devices and connect not only within Canada but with other sites globally as well. Speaker: James Ross Audio and teleconferencing play a huge part in our day-to-day business. BT has provided us with a high quality MeetMe service as well as WebEx. This helps us share and collaborate, whether they’re global or whether they’re in Canada right beside us. Speaker: Tom Ormsby With five global hubs, I lose two days when I leave North America to get to meetings in southern Africa. So the use of the Cisco telepresence has been very important for us here at De Beers, when I’m fighting the clock and fighting time zones. So it has been very effective that way. Speaker: James Ross The Cisco environment especially as it relates to voice over IP telephony has been crucial in De Beers. So instead of incurring international toll rates to call South Africa or Botswana we will be able to use our high speed international networks. Speaker:James Ross It will help reduce our costs, but as well it will allow us to integrate even better with our businesses overseas. Speaker: James Ross Cyber security is for everyone in IT certainly a huge challenge these days. The personal information of our employees is absolutely critical for us as is the intellectual property that we have within our business. Speaker: James Ross BT and Cisco play a big role in our cyber-security approach in the sense that they’ve helped us build our networks with an eye to security to protect ourselves and to protect the information of the people that work with us and our partners. Speaker: Tom Ormsby We are mining at De Beers in the Arctic, we are mining off in the ocean, we’re still mining on land there will be more and more remote locations. So the technology has to continue to evolve and innovate at the pace where we as an industry are going to require it to go. Speaker: James Ross What we envision with our partnership with BT in the future is how we can enable the mines to operate more effectively with lower costs, but without having to put a human life at risk.

To the Light (2011)
China, USA / 2011 / 69 Minutes Dir. Yuanchen Liu The bright lights of China’s booming economy are powered by the hard labor of its miners, who work deep in perilous coal shafts around the country. When a miner dies, his family receives a death pension greater than the amount of money he would have made in his lifetime, had he stayed alive. In rural China, where farming alone cannot sustain families, miners have no alternative but to risk their lives daily, descending hundreds of meters underground to dig out the black ore fueling China’s massive electrical grid. "To the Light" delves into the hopes and struggles of the mining families in Sichuan, west China. The father of two, Luo originally became a coal miner to pay off the fine for violating China’s One Child Policy. Hui, son of another miner, prefers to be coal-train driver than take work far from home. For many families, coal mining has become a principal source of income and the only alternative to factory jobs in distant cities. But the mines are notoriously dangerous and thousands are killed every year. Going deep underground, the film exposes the perils faced by these miners, the slim rewards, and dire consequences when things go wrong. In spite of the risks, the working poor continue to flock to the mines, unable to heed the warning that earning a living wage may also mean dying for it. (2011 Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award)

Which ASX industry and stock will be impacted by the Chinese economy
Before asking Greg and Chris to share their thoughts on the companies and sectors that will be impacted the most by a volatile Chinese stock market, Shepherd asked attendees which trend they believe will impact the ASX over the next 12 months. 45 per cent believe China will create the biggest impact, followed by rising US interest rates (39 per cent) and oil prices (16 per cent). Greg Canavan believes Australia’s banking sector will feel the biggest brunt from China’s slowing economy. “The Chinese economy has been slowing for four years now. Australia’s big mining companies were the first ones to be hit. Now that the slowdown has worked it’s was into the heart of China’s economy, its the banks turn.”, Greg said. Part of the offset of the China slowdown has been lower interest rates, the impact of which has been a housing boom in Australia. And Australia’s banks have done very well from this trend. Greg added, “If China’s economy slows more than what the market thinks, then the demand for Australia’s exports will slow, which in turn will see Australia’s economy slow down. A slowdown in our economy will impact the housing market and ultimately the banks that lend the money to homeowners.” Looking at Australia’s largest bank, Commonwealth Bank, Greg said the biggest risk is around CBA’s ability to maintain its high dividend. A slowdown in revenue growth or an increase in bad debts will ultimately impact dividends paid by Australia’s Big 4 banks. Chris Batchelor agrees with Greg, adding that Australia’s mining sector will continue to suffer, along with companies selling their goods and services into China. Chris talks through the impact of China on BHP, Australia’s largest mining stock. To wrap up Shepherd asks a question from the audience: A small percentage of the Chinese population actually invest in their stock market. Why then is it so volatile? Watch this video to hear Chris and Greg’s thoughts. How to find top growth stocks was recorded on 17 September 2015 at skaffold.com. Alkane Resources Dubbo Project 2017
The Dubbo Project (DP) is a new and strategically significant source of high demand critical metals, which are independent of traditional supply sources. The Dubbo resource is a long life polymetallic ore body that is readily processed and separated into valuable products including zirconium, hafnium, niobium and rare earths. A large scale Demonstration Pilot Plant at ANSTO in Sydney has been operating since 2008 to provide robust qualification and optimisation of the DZP process and the necessary information for scale up to a full scale operating plant. The plant has proven the process flowsheet from a chemical and engineering sense as well as providing capital and operating costs for scale-up. Over 100 tonnes of ore has been processed in the Demonstration Pilot Plant to produce zirconium, hafnium, niobium and rare earth products. At a processing rate of 1 m tpa of ore for the full-scale plant, annual revenue for the four product groups ranges from US$430m - US$470m pa with an EBITDA of $235m - $275m pa. www.alkane.com.au @AlkaneResources This video was created on 1 September 2017.

This BAD SANTA Leaves Lumps of Coal in Your Lung Instead of Your Stocking. Absurdity Today Ep. 47
The Coal Industry is going to great lengths to screw their former miners, upon whose labor their fortune and success was built, out of their Black Lung disability benefits. The information comes from a report done by The Center for Public Integrity (www.PublicIntegrity.org) called Breathless and Burdened. The year-long study found doctors and lawyers are working at the behest of the coal industry to help defeat the benefits claims of miners disabled and dying of black lung disease. What's worse, disease rates are on the rise, causing an increasing number of miners to turn to this corrupt system to help alleviate their suffering. It is the world's largest refiner of bauxite and the fourth largest producer of primary aluminium. It is the largest producer of gem and industrial diamonds, lead and tantalum, and the mineral sands ilmenite, rutile and zircon. It is the fifth largest producer and largest exporter of black coal and the second largest producer of zinc, the third largest producer of gold, iron ore and manganese ore and the fourth largest producer of nickel. It is the fifth largest producer of copper and silver. It has the world's largest resources of low-cost uranium. Australia also has the potential to remain among the world's leading mineral nations. New deposits have been discovered and developed as demand for mineral products grows, but the minerals industry has to continue to find and develop more mineral deposits to meet the demand for its products and replace worked out mines. Many Australians believe huge areas of the continent are devoted to mining when in fact less than 0.02 per cent of Australia is affected by mining. Although this disturbance is small when compared with that caused by other activities such as real estate development, farming and grazing, road construction and the urban sprawl, the minerals industry must responsibly manage the environment in which it operates. Australians enjoy one of the highest living standards in the world and part of the reason is that it is a major trading nation. The minerals industry is one of the biggest contributors to Australia's export trade.Technology in Australia Australia is known for adopting new technologies at a faster rate than most other countries in the world; for example, it entered the new millennium with one of the highest rates of internet access in the world. Scientists and researchers from Australia have been responsible for many major breakthroughs and technological developments around the world. In fact, Australia boasts eights Nobel Prize recipients—not bad for a country with a population of about 19 million. The growth of technology in Australia has had several important results; it has increased opportunities for innovation and design; helped various industries make improvements in their already existing establishments, and helped them to improve the quality of their goods. The technology growth has also helped to improve Australia’s economy, as it is now one of the leading countries in the world for importing and exporting goods.

Dr. Peter H. Diamandis — Intelligent Self-directed Evolution
Global Future 2045: Towards a New Strategy for Human Evolution / New York City, 2013 http://gf2045.com/ Dr. Peter H Diamandis Abundance Engineer Physician, entrepreneur, founder and chairman of the X PRIZE Foundation. Author of Abundance. Intelligent Self-directed Evolution Drives Mankind's Metamorphosis into an Immortal Planetary Meta-intelligence We are extraordinarily fortunate to be alive on this planet during a period of unprecedented, exponentially accelerating, self-directed evolutionary change. We humans have begun to incorporate technology inside ourselves. Humans themselves are becoming an information technology. Over the last decades mankind has suddenly started changing from a loose collection of 7 billion individuals to a new kind of perpetually morphing non-physical social tissue woven from densely interconnected arrays of mobile person-nodes. In this process we—humanity—are becoming a new organism: a meta-intelligence. As a species, as this new organism, we are becoming conscious on an unprecedented new level, in a new cosmic-scale realm. As we are going through the metamorphosis process of becoming this new meta-intelligence organism, we are going from evolution by natural selection—Darwinism—to evolution by intelligent direction. We are starting to direct the evolution of our biology and of our minds ourselves. Before long, this will result in our minds becoming independent from their original biological substrate—the biological human brain—the evolution speed of which has become far too slow to keep up with our exponentially increasing pace of innovation and invention. As we begin to liberate our thoughts, our memes, our consciousness from the biological constraints that we presently have, this will allow us to evolve far faster and ever faster. Beyond the great personal benefit of immortality, the species-level benefits of making our minds and bodies substrate-independent and non-biological include becoming a truly spacefaring species thanks to gaining the ability to travel near the speed of light while also remaining alive for far longer than the currently normal human lifespan. This will free us from the shackles of Earthly gravity and enable us to go explore and populate our solar system, our galaxy, our universe and what may be an infinite number of universes. Persons are now empowered more than ever before. As an individual I can now already tap into 'global genius' anywhere in the world. This trend is accelerating at an exponential rate and will result in us—jointly and severally—to become quite god-like with 'life-everlasting'. We will no longer have to die a physical death, enabling who we are—our mission, our purpose, our consciousness—to continue for a far longer time. When we—mankind—will become fully conscious and self-aware as a planetary-scale meta-intelligence ourselves, we will be able to look out into the universe in new ways, with new kinds of 'eyes', and see thousands or millions or billions of similar conscious planet-level entities that have come into being all around us in our galaxy and the myriad galaxies beyond our own. That all of this is happening during our lifetimes is powerfully extraordinary. That makes it so exciting to be alive right now. BIOGRAPHY In the field of Innovation, Diamandis is Chairman and CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation, best known for its $10 million Ansari X PRIZE for private spaceflight. Today the X PRIZE leads the world in designing and operating large-scale global competitions to solve market failures. He is also the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Singularity University, a graduate-level Silicon Valley institution that studies exponentially growing technologies, their ability to transform industries and solve humanity’s grand challenges. In the field of commercial space, Diamandis is Co-Founder/Co-Chairman of Planetary Resources, a company designing spacecraft to enable the detection and mining of asteroid for precious materials. He is the also Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Space Adventures, the only company to have brokered the launches of private citizens to the International Space Station, and co-Founder, past-CEO of Zero Gravity Corporation providing weightless parabolic flights. He earned an undergraduate degree in Molecular Genetics and a graduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He has won multiple awards, including the first Heinlein Laureate, the 2010 Economist “No Boundaries” Innovator of the Year Award, the 2007 Arthur C. Clarke Award, the 2006 Lindbergh Award, the 2006 Neil Armstrong Award and first place in the Estes rocket design contest when he was an 8th grader. Diamandis’ mission is to open the space frontier for humanity. His personal motto is: “The best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.”

Qiaoling Liu, CompanyDepot: Employer Name Normalization in the Online Recruitment Industry
Qiaoling Liu is a lead data scientist in CareerBuilder’s Information Extraction and Retrieval team under Data Science R&D group. Her team owns the projects of Company Name Normalization, School Name Normalization, Skill Identification and Normalization, and Recruitment Edge Signals at CareerBuilder. Her research interests include information retrieval, text mining, and semantic web. She received a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics from Emory University, and a B.S. in Computer Science and Technology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. During her PhD studies, she was a student recipient of the 2011, 2012, 2013 Yahoo! Faculty Research and Engagement Program (FREP) Award. CompanyDepot: Employer Name Normalization in the Online Recruitment Industry In the recruitment domain, the employer name normalization task, which links employer names in job postings or resumes to entities in an employer knowledge base (KB), is important to many business applications. It has several unique challenges: handling employer names from both job postings and resumes, leveraging the corresponding location and url context, as well as handling name variations, irrelevant input data, and noises in the KB. In this talk, we present a system called CompanyDepot which uses machine learning techniques to address these challenges. The proposed system achieves 2.5%- 21.4% higher coverage at the same precision level compared to a legacy system used at CareerBuilder over multiple real-world datasets. After applying it to several applications at CareerBuilder, we faced a new challenge: how to avoid duplicate normalization results when the KB is noisy and contains many duplicate entities. To address this challenge, we extend the CompanyDepot system to normalize employer names not only at entity level, but also at cluster level by mapping a query to a cluster in the KB that best matches the query. The proposed system performs an efficient graph-based clustering based on external knowledge from five mapping sources. We also propose a new metric based on success rate and diversity reduction ratio for evaluating the cluster-level normalization. Through experiments and applications, we demonstrate a large improvement on normalization quality from entity-level to cluster-level normalization.

Music provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/oIpjGVBY9AM // What is Microsoft? (wikipedia) Microsoft Corporation /ˈmaɪkrəˌsɒft, -roʊ-, -ˌsɔːft/[6][7] (commonly referred to as Microsoft or MS) is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Redmond, Washington, that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports and sells computer software, consumer electronics and personal computers and services. Its best known software products are the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems, Microsoft Office office suite, and Internet Explorer and Edge web browsers. Its flagship hardware products are the Xbox video game consoles and the Microsoft Surface tablet lineup. As of 2011, it was the world's largest software maker by revenue,[8] and one of the world's most valuable companies.[9] Microsoft was founded by Paul Allen and Bill Gates on April 4, 1975, to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800. It rose to dominate the personal computer operating system market with MS-DOS in the mid-1980s, followed by Microsoft Windows. The company's 1986 initial public offering (IPO), and subsequent rise in its share price, created three billionaires and an estimated 12,000 millionaires among Microsoft employees. Since the 1990s, it has increasingly diversified from the operating system market and has made a number of corporate acquisitions. In May 2011, Microsoft acquired Skype Technologies for $8.5 billion,[10] and in December 2016 bought LinkedIn for $26.2 billion.[11] As of 2015, Microsoft is market-dominant in the IBM PC-compatible operating system market and the office software suite market, although it has lost the majority of the overall operating system market to Android.[12] The company also produces a wide range of other software for desktops and servers, and is active in areas including Internet search (with Bing), the video game industry (with the Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles), the digital services market (through MSN), and mobile phones (via the operating systems of Nokia's former phones[13] and Windows Phone OS). In June 2012, Microsoft entered the personal computer production market for the first time, with the launch of the Microsoft Surface, a line of tablet computers. With the acquisition of Nokia's devices and services division to form Microsoft Mobile, the company re-entered the smartphone hardware market, after its previous attempt, Microsoft Kin, which resulted from their acquisition of Danger Inc.[14] The word "Microsoft" is a portmanteau of "microcomputer" and "software".[15] // What is Data Science? (wikipedia) Data science, also known as data-driven science, is an interdisciplinary field about scientific processes and systems to extract knowledge or insights from data in various forms, either structured or unstructured,[1][2] which is a continuation of some of the data analysis fields such as statistics, machine learning, data mining, and predictive analytics,[3] similar to Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD). Turing award winner Jim Gray imagined data science as a "fourth paradigm" of science (empirical, theoretical, computational and now data-driven) and asserted that "everything about science is changing because of the impact of information technology" and the data deluge.[4][5]
