Gold Prospecting a Rainforest Stream.
We head into the deep rainforest of North Queensland on the trail of the 'Old Timers' who discovered alluvial gold in the area in the late 1800s. Although the stream is only known to produce fine alluvial gold, we nevertheless give the ATX a run in the fresh water fitted with the sensitive 8" monoloop coil. No targets come to light so out comes the prospecting pan and a trace of 'colour' shows we are in the right area. The intriguing thing about this alluvial gold is that the source has never been found -- possibly an undiscovered reef upstream or perhaps the area has been isolated geologically from the source tens of thousands of years ago? In any event, a great day out in idyllic country and a good way to waste a few hours! Thanks for watching and subscribing. www.nqexplorers.com www.facebook.com/nqexplorers www.garrettaustralia.com.au

Gold detecting Clermont Queensland. video 1
It is not all gold in this video from a trip to the Clermont goldfields in central Queensland, Hot rocks were numerous, plenty of junk targets and yes some were gold. Video is a little longer than I would like it to be, however gets the point across that it's not simply a matter of going out with a detector and finding lots of gold, there is plenty of stuff out there to have the detector beeping. Mt. Moss Mining
Mt Moss Mine is the largest magnetite deposit on Australia's east coast. The mine is situated in the old Ewan mining field, 110km west of Townsville in North Queensland, which saw pioneer Australians explore and mine rich copper and tin in the area from 1890 until the 1930's. Since 1958, various international mining companies including BHP and MIM have explored the area for copper, lead, zinc and tin mineralisation. In 2005 Curtain Bros bought from Jervois Mining NL (a small, publically listed exploration company) mining lease ML10171 and set up a subsidiary company called Mt Moss Mining. From acquisition, Curtain Bros commenced the construction of site workshop facilities, offices, laboratory, camp and accommodation facilities as well as 50 km of roads to a standard suitable to haul large tonnages of iron ore product. During the construction phase, over 30,000 meters of combined percussion chip and diamond core drilling was completed to delineate a magnetite iron ore resource in excess of 20Mt. The potential for significant additional resources containing copper and zinc credits is very high. Mining commenced from the Willett's Knob, stage 1 pit in 2007. A stage 2 pit cutback commenced in November 2007 and was completed in early December 2008 to a depth of approximately 70 meters. Mount Moss Mining is processing stockpiled magnetite ore through two separate benification circuits to produce two saleable product streams. The mine employs over 75 personnel working across all mining areas including mobile and fixed plant operators, and mechanical and electrical trades, geology, mines engineering, metallurgy, administration, catering and housekeeping.

Gold Prospecting: 6 Days in the North Queensland Goldfields: Garrett AT Gold.
We spend 6 days in the red soil country of the North Queensland Goldfields prospecting for gold, searching for 'old timer's' relics and fossicking for gemstone agate. Featured relic finds include a Royal Navy Officer's jacket button dating from the Victorian era, and a 19th Century brass saddler's needle. On the final day, a bit of 'gully raking' and careful detecting with the Garrett AT Gold and AT Pro machines produces a lovely little sub-gram gold nugget. We hope you enjoy sharing our 6-day expedition to the Gulf Savannah Goldfields. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Colleen and Warren. www.nqexplorers.com www.garrettaustralia.com.au

Gold Mining and Historical Museum - Gympie
Gympie is about 160 kilometres north of the state capital, Brisbane. The city lies on the Mary River, which floods the town periodically. At the 2011 census, Gympie had a population of 18,602. The Gympie Gold Mining and Historical Museum houses memorabilia from the early gold mining era, as well as displays showcasing military, rural, transport, communications, and steam development in Australia. The town of Gympie has an important and colourful history, from being cited as the "Town that saved Queensland from Bankruptcy" to being the home of Andrew Fisher, Labor's second Prime Minister. Everybody is invited to visit our Museum where you can find out just how Gympie saved Queensland and discover more of the region's past and present. The Museum houses a vast collection of documentation, artifacts and photographs dating from the discovery of gold in 1867 by James Nash to the recently closed operations of the Gympie Eldorado Goldmine. In 1867, James Nash discovered 72 ounces of Gold in just 6 days. This started the Gold Rush in Gympie and it became known as The Town that saved Queensland from Bankruptcy. Gympie has has seen the rush for alluvial gold, deep reef mining, reprocessing of tailings and the re-opening of the mines in the mid 1980s. With the recent cessation of mining, there still remains the lure of residual gold and there may well be more to come. You can learn all about this, and much more of Gympies colourful and historical past right here at the Museum. The site comprises over 5 hectares containing over 30 display areas in and around 15 major buildings. Gympie is heralded as the town that saved Queensland from bankruptcy due to drought and low wool prices back in the 1800s. Thanks to James Nash discovery of gold where the Gympie Town Hall now stands back in 1867, the Gold Rush was started. Within 6 months of James Nash’ windfall, over 15,000 men had raced to Gympie to dig for their fortunes. The town grew at a rapid rate and amazingly many of the original buildings are still there. Gympie's Gold Mining and Historical Museum showcases not only Gympie's rich gold mining history but also other aspects of the region's past era including steam machinery, agricultural, dairying, vehicles, gemstone and shell collections. Andrew Fisher House (named after Australia's second Labour Prime Minister 1908-1915) is part of the Museums collection of historical buildings housed with period furniture. Also the award winning Military Collection of the Fifth Light Horse Regiment which includes military equipment and memorabilia of all sons and daughters of the Gympie area that went to war. Try your luck at the Museum's Gold Panning and take home a specimen of Gympie Gold - a great time for the whole family. Tour groups welcome.

Pine Cove gold mine reduces dilution from 20 to 5%
Hear from Jordan Cramm, mine & engineering superintendent at Anaconda Mining, describe how blast movement monitoring has helped them reduce dilution to 5% and add up to $30,000 per blast. Anaconda Mining, a Canadian gold mining company projects in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, owns and operates Pine Cove mine. Located on the North East coast of Newfoundland, Pine Cove mine is an open pit gold mining operation. The deposit is structurally controlled, with very irregular ore zones, with both narrow and wide zones within. While there is a main section to the deposit, there are many thin zones on the fringes of the deposit. The thin areas experienced high dilution, over 20%, which resulted in lower feed grades through the mill. By reducing dilution, the site team have increased the grade and limited the waste going to the mill-- generating an additional US$15,000 to $30,000 dollars per blast.
