Glenn Mullan | PDAC President discusses 2018 PDAC Convention & How it Benefits the Mining Investor

10:22
In a sector such as mining where the investor can either multiple or deplete his or her wealth quickly, knowledge and its wise application is absolutely crucial. The investor’s knowledge is often the determining factor regarding whether the investor is successful or not. One of the best ways to grow in knowledge, to learn about new investing opportunities and to stay on top of current trends is by attending the annual PDAC Convention in Toronto. The PDAC Convention is the world’s largest and premier mining conference attended by people from all over the world. In 2017, the PDAC Convention had over 24,000 attendees from 130 different countries. In this episode, Glenn Mullan, President of the Prospectors & Developers of Canada (PDAC) shares about the upcoming PDAC Convention. Glenn Mullan is the 36th President of the Prospectors & Developers of Canada (PDAC). Learn more and Register at: http://www.pdac.ca/convention Over his +40-year career, Glenn has followed a traditional exploration and prospecting path. He began with contract geophysical surveys, where he caught the bug for being in the North and working in remote locations, then began prospecting and staking mining claims independently while completing his B.Sc. in Geology and Earth Sciences at Concordia University. He later conducted contract exploration geological services, mostly located in Northern Ontario and Québec. Glenn would go on to broker numerous prospector/vendor transactions with arms-length public companies, and form a public company in 1999 that evolved into Ni-Cu-PGE producer that currently employs more than 300 people in Northern Québec. Glenn has a broad spectrum of industry-related experience—across Canada and Africa—including early-stage acquisitions and exploration through PEA, BFS, permitting and mine development-stages, as well as CSR initiatives, financing and corporate development. That said, he much prefers early-stage grassroots exploration in remote locations and near his home base in Val-D’Or, Québec. Currently, Glenn serves as President and CEO of Golden Valley Mines Ltd, where his main area of interest continues to be grassroots early-stage exploration, primarily for base and precious metals in Canada and abroad. Glenn has been a PDAC member for over 40 years, serving on the Executive Committee, Awards Committee, CSR Committee and the Governance & Nominating Committee. Barrick Gold CEO Jamie Sokalsky gets called out at Toronto mining convention

04:40
Once a year, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) throws the world's largest mining convention in downtown Toronto. This year, the convention featured a track on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that was open to the public. The final session of this track was a CEO panel featuring Jamie Sokalsky, the CEO of Barrick Gold. While Sokalsky tried to present Barrick's CSR program as more than just window dressing, I got ahold of the mic to draw attention to the very real and on-going human rights abuses at two of Barrick's mine sites, first in North Mara, Tanzania and then in Porgera, Papua New Guinea. Unfazed by the fact that they turned off my mic, I raised my voice to speak louder about the scale of the devastation in Papua New Guinea. Finally, the security escorted me out as I handed out footnoted fact sheets to the audience at the forum. Barrick's entire board and shareholders will gather this April 24 in Downtown Toronto's Metro Convention Centre's John Basset Theatre at 10am. Please come and confront Barrick yourself... don't let them get away with denying the destruction their are imposing on other communities! FACT SHEET: http://protestbarrick.net/article.php?id=868 This is the text of the fact sheet I distributed at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto on March 5, 2013. It is just the tip of the iceberg regarding Barrick's abuses, but enough points to prove a point that Barrick does not promote sustainable development at their mine sites. The fact sheet also debunks the myth that self-reporting can replace regulation and independent monitoring of mining activity. camera: Zach Ruiter director: Sakura Saunders editors: Zach Ruiter and Sakura Saunders music: Illogik, "The Path"

Thayer Lindsley Award for international mineral discoveries The Ivanhoe Mines Kamoa Discovery Team is the recipient of this year’s Thayer Lindsley Award for international mineral discoveries. The team is receiving the award for discovery of the Kamoa Copper Deposit in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The deposit is located in the Central African Copperbelt on the western edge of the Katangan basin, approximately 25 km west of the Kolwezi district. The deposit is a new and blind grassroots discovery in an area previously written off by other explorers because of its lack of Mines Series rocks, as well as of surface mineralization. A 2013 independent mineral resource estimate ranked Kamoa as Africa's largest high-grade copper discovery and the world's largest, undeveloped high-grade copper discovery. The Kamoa Discovery Team was led by Dr. David Broughton, Executive Vice President of Exploration at Ivanhoe Mines, and Thomas Rogers, Director of Exploration, African Mining Consultants. In addition, the team included David Edwards, Geology Manager, Kamoa Project, Ivanhoe Mines; Dr. Douglas Haynes, Director, Douglas Haynes Discovery Pty. Ltd.; Dr. Ross McGowan, formerly of African Mining Consultants and currently CEO, Armada Exploration Ltd.; and Steven McMullan, P. Geo., Site Manager at Ivanhoe Mines’ Kipushi Project, and Principal Geoscientist, African Mining Consultants.

Detour Gold: Working to Make Detour Lake Canada's Largest Gold-producing Mine

02:33
At PDAC, Resource Investing News had the chance to speak with executives from a variety of companies, with one highlight from the gold space being Charles Hennessey, mine general manager at Detour Gold (TSX:DGC). The company's Detour Lake mine, located in Northern Ontario, is the second-largest gold-producing mine in Canada, and the largest in the country in terms of reserves. However, as Hennessey explained, Detour is looking to make it Canada's largest gold-producing mine. "The steps we're taking — we're continuing through the ramp up ... last year we were just below 18 million tonnes processed, but we have a design of 20 million tonnes, and this year we're pushing to be just underneath that," he said. And while Detour Lake's size sets the company apart from its peers for obvious reasons, Hennessey was able to expand on what else makes Detour unique. "We're actually quite a large mining company ... for a junior. We are the largest gold mine that's not controlled by a senior producer in the world," he explained. In closing Hennessey discussed the equipment used at the mine, as well as how mining and processing there works. Watch the video below for more of what he said.

04:16
Skookum Jim Award for Aboriginal achievement in the mineral industry Recipients of this award will have demonstrated exceptional achievement and/or service in an aboriginal-run service business for the Canadian mining industry or a Canadian aboriginal exploration or mining company, or have made a significant individual contribution to the mining industry. This year's award is being presented to the Nuna Group of Companies for providing mining and construction services to mining companies in northern Canada and training and employment opportunities for Aboriginal People in the North. Nuna was formed in 1993 and is 51% Inuit-owned [Nunasi Corporation (25.5%); Kitikmeot Corporation (25.5%); and Nuna Management (49%)]. Services the Nuna Group provides, through a group of seven subsidiary companies and fourteen joint ventures and partnerships, include: construction services, logistics, contract mining, infrastructure planning, earthworks, large diameter drilling, and mining support services and mining products. Sharing the economic benefits of the business with Inuit, Aboriginal People, and northerners has resulted in the company having, among owners and subcontractors, a very high proportion of northern content on projects. The company, which is dedicated to ongoing employee training, has a work force in excess of 600 people on various projects in northern Canada and sources 66% to 81% of the goods and services it uses from the North. Nuna was contracted to build the 567-kilometre ice road from Yellowknife to Lupin, Nunavut, and since 1998 the company has operated and maintained this roadway, which provides access to northern mining sites each winter.

Metallic Minerals & Group Ten Metals - PDAC 2018

13:07
Greg Johnson was giving AXINO a summary about both companies, of what has been achieved, and about the next exploration steps. Key Facts given: - The newly formed company Metallic Group of Companies is a colloboration of independent companies for sharing costs, and for gaining synergies - The Yukon is reported to be one of the largest and highest graded silver districts in the world. - Landpackages of MMG and GPE have been surprisingly underexplorered - 40 different silver targets were streamlined to 12 priorized tagets, whereas 7 spots will experience further aggressive drilling in 2018, budgeted by Metallic in the amount of 2 Mio CAD - Formal resource definition of MMG should be completed early 2019 - On the long run, Metallic is thinking of delivering ore to its neighbour's mine (Alexco Resources) - Gold Royalty Agreements contribute revenue for partially covering exploration costs. There is still room for 8 more gold operators - Group Ten's Stillwater West Project, just next to the well-known Sibanye Stillwater mine, has revealed 18 km of PGE anomalies - Sibanye is known to be the largest and highest graded platinum producer in the world, outside South Africa and Russia - Group Ten will also start an aggressive drill program there, budgeted by the amount of 1,5 Mio CAD
