Should You Buy Mining Stocks, or the Metal Itself?

10:26
Which is Best? The Metals or the Miners? Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/user/PeterLeedsPennyStock Both the physical metals themselves, AND the mining companies, will benefit from changes to the price of the commodity. Whether talking about gold, pork bellies, silver, palladium, platinum, or any commodity (from coffee to cotton), there are a few very important considerations. In general, the prices of the penny stock mining companies will increase or decrease by a larger percentage amount than the actual metal itself. This is because of the profit margin increase. If gold (for example) rises 10%, then since the extraction costs are set, the boost to profit margins could be extreme... such as 200%. Thus, the 10% surge in the price of the metal actually translates into a significant gain to the penny stock's profits. However, one issue that all businesses have, which the commodities do not face, would be company-specific risks. Commodities do not embezzle money, or make bad business deals, or get sued, or have to deal with employee deaths, etc... Gold or silver? Platinum or palladium? How do investors make a decision as to which precious metal is the appropriate choice for portfolio diversification purposes? Rising rates could spell good news for precious metals. That’s because a stronger economy drives the need for manufacturing components, many of which rely on platinum, palladium, and silver. Silver On Track To Be Best Performing Precious Metal This Year - ETF Securities

04:04
Precious metals remain resilient among the weak commodity prices with significant signs of physical demand, says Mike McGlone, head of research for ETF Securities. Leading the pack is silver, which in the aftermath of the weak September employment number, has been the best performing precious metal. ‘So far in October, it is up 10%, making it the only precious metal up on the year, +2%,’ said McGlone in an interview with Kitco News on Thursday. ‘Silver has been dragged down along with copper the past few years but has diverged so far in 2015: silver up 2% YTD, copper down 18% YTD,’ he added. McGlone explained that supply and demand trends are favorable for the metal with record Indian imports, strong China imports and record coin sales. He also anticipates that this year will see the first annual decline in supply. ‘Technicals appear to have turned up, currently holding resistance at the 200-day moving average at $16 an ounce,’ he said. December Comex silver was last down $0.329 at $15.765 an ounce. Kitco News, October 8, 2015. Go For the Gold ETF Not the Miners

05:02
The price of gold may be flying so far in 2016, but the yellow metal is still trailing the miners plucking it from the ground. Steven Dunn, executive director at ETF Securities, said investors should not abandon the physical metal to jump on the miner bandwagon so quickly. 'There’s a lot of leverage and debt in the miner space,' said Dunn. 'If you are looking at it from a risk parity type of trade of the metal versus the miners there is a lot more risk associated with the miners currently.' Gold, as tracked by the ETFS Physical Swiss Gold ETF (SGOL), is up 17% year-to-date. The Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX), which holds mining giants like Barrick Gold (ABX), Goldcorp (GG) and Newmont Mining (NEM), is up 41% since the start of 2016. As for the factors driving gold higher, Dunn said it starts with the volatility investors have been feeling in the equity market. Kevin O’Leary: Stay Away From Gold Miners, Hold Bullion

02:21
Investors are better off holding physical gold rather than mining stocks, according to Shark Tank star and chairman of O’Shares ETFs, Kevin O’Leary. O’Leary said gold miners have had a track record of bad management and poor cost control that have led to underperformance relative to physical gold. The Shark Tank investor himself maintains 5% of his portfolio in physical gold, using a combination of bullion and SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD), the world’s largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund. “The history of mining has been abysmal,” O’Leary told Kitco News on the sidelines of the “Three Sharks In A Castle” symposium. “The value of the commodity is whatever it is every day. I don’t need to have a manager in the middle screwing up his capital cost allowance, not controlling his costs.” _________________________________________________________________ Kitco News is the world’s #1 source of metals market information. A New Way To Invest In Miners Hitting The Market?

06:22
As investors seek new ways to gain exposure to the precious metals sector, one CEO says he’s prepared to offer a new way to invest in the miners. Frank Holmes of U.S. Global Investors is the man behind the U.S. Global Go Gold & Precious Metals Miners ETF — also known as GOAU — an exchange-traded fund that will give investors exposure to gold producers as well as royalty companies. ‘Royalties are the better bet,’ he told Kitco News in studio just days before the launch of his new product. ‘Royalties give you exposure to the juniors with lower risk.’ And, despite recent pressure in metals prices, Holmes says he still believes it is time to be bullish. Investing for Beginners 06: Gold ETF & Silver ETF Avoid the Scam

05:16
Investing for Beginners 06: Gold ETF & Silver ETF Avoid the Scam When you invest in a gold or silver exchange-traded fund, you do not become the sole owner of actual gold or silver. For an ETF represented to be backed by gold or silver, the fund managers will contract with a custodian to hold the gold or silver in a vault. The custodian is usually a large, international bank, serving as a custodian for numerous customers. Most of the time, because the custodian is a huge multi-national corporation with thousands of accounts, when gold or silver is bought or sold, the metal never physically moves. Title to the bars of gold or silver is simply transferred from the seller to the buyer as a book entry in a massive computer network. This is where problems can arise: If the custodian is allowed to appoint sub-custodians, and the sub-custodians are allowed to appoint sub-sub-custodians and so on, now the gold or silver is spread out over various geographic locations. The only way to prove these sub-custodians hold enough gold or silver at any given point in time to fully back the account is for the ETF to require the custodian and all sub-custodians to be audited, during non-trading hours, all on the same day. If the gold ETF or silver ETF does not regularly require this type of audit of its custodian and sub-custodians, chances are high that the same physical gold may be purchased or owned by the same entity or individual at the same time. Many metals experts believe that silver ETFs and gold ETFs may hold less than the amount of precious metals they supposedly own or none at all. For most of us precious metals investors, the essence of keeping your hard-earned wealth in precious metals is to own a physical asset that can weather any economic storm. When you put your wealth in ETFs, you simply become an unsecured creditor of a mega-bank that will happily gobble up your wealth if financial turmoil strikes. As is true of any electronic or paper form of wealth, the investor can be denied access to the value of his or her gold ETF or silver ETF shares due to Acts of God, war, force majeure, confiscation, computer glitches, fraud, insolvency, lawsuits, liens, garnishment, etc. Given those caveats, coupled with the very real possibility that silver and gold ETFs are not backed by physical gold or silver, investing in real, physical gold or silver will always be the safer bet. The higher premiums investors pay for physical gold and silver stored either their home or in a segregated fully insured vault account seems a small price to pay in exchange for a safe and secure investment. One final note on silver and gold ETFs, due to high annual ETF management fees, more often than not, it is much less expensive to store precious metals in a private, segregated, fully insured gold and silver vault as opposed to having your silver ETF or gold ETF shares diluted from exchange trade fund or ETF management fees. Dave Kranzler | Using Leverage in Precious Metals & Mining Stock Investing

35:50
Returning guest Dave Kranzler of Investment Research Dynamics returns to the program to discuss the use of leverage when investing in precious metals and mining stocks. Dave co-manages a precious metals and junior mining stock fund and is the editor of the Mining Stock Journal and Short Seller’s Journal. Leverage, as any savvy business owner or investors knows, can dramatically increase the growth rate of one’s wealth when things go in your favor. But when you use leverage to invest and things don’t go in your favor, your wealth can begin to evaporate quickly. If the use of leverage goes wrong for the investor it is even possible that you lose all of your invested capital AND more leaving you with a debt to pay off. Many people are attracted to mining stocks because of the built-in leverage they offer relative to the price of the underlying commodity that a mining company mines. Not only are the mining stocks essentially a leveraged instrument, but there are derivative financial products available to the investor that even further increases the leverage already built into a mining stock. In this interview, Dave Kranzler discusses with Bill Powers how to deal with the emotions of greed and fear when investing in mining stocks and also ways in which the investor might utilize the various leveraged financial instruments of margin accounts, put and call options, JNUG and DUST (3x daily ETF’s) and gold and silver futures contracts. 0:05 Introduction of Topic and Guest 1:07 Dealing with the emotions of greed and fear when investing 12:23 Using margin to invest in mining stocks 15:25 Discussing the probability of successful trading 18:11 Using put & call options on mining stocks 24:22 How to play JNUG & DUST (3x daily ETF’s) 29:43 Discussing Gold & Silver Futures Contracts 32:45 Dave’s concluding thoughts regarding leverage Sign up for our free newsletter and receive interview transcripts, stock profiles and investment ideas: http://eepurl.com/cHxJ39 The content found on MiningStockEducation.com is for informational purposes only and is not to be considered personal legal or investment advice or a recommendation to buy or sell securities or any other product. South Africa's Answer To Precious Metals & Commodities ETFs | LBMA 2013 | CME Group & Kitco

03:44
Kitco News talks about precious metals ETFs in South Africa with Vladimir Nedeljkovic of Absa CIBW. "We listed our first commodity ETF [NewGold] in South Africa in 2004," Nedeljkovic says. "In the South African market we have about $5b of investments in ETFs...slightly more than half of the investment in commodity ETFs." The trick when launching a new product in the market is to bring products based on investor demand, he adds. With regards to the sentiment towards metals these days, Nedeljkovic thinks people are positive but the sentiment is different towards mining companies versus ETFs or commodities themselves. CEO Explains Why this Gold ETF Doesn’t Have the Traditional Market Cap Weighting

06:31
There are two types of gold ETFs: those that invest in physical gold and those that invest in gold stocks. The new U.S. Global GO GOLD and Precious Metal Miners ETF (GOAU), launched June 28, falls in the latter category. Please consider carefully a fund’s investment objectives, risks, charges and expenses. For this and other important information, obtain a statutory and summary prospectus here: http://www.usglobaletfs.com/investor-materials/ or call 844.ETF.JETS (844.383.5387). Read it carefully before investing. Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. Shares of any ETF are bought and sold at market price (not NAV), may trade at a discount or premium to NAV and are not individually redeemed from the funds. Brokerage commissions will reduce returns. Because the funds concentrate their investments in specific industries, the funds may be subject to greater risks and fluctuations than a portfolio representing a broader range of industries. The funds are non-diversified, meaning they may concentrate more of their assets in a smaller number of issuers than diversified funds. The funds invest in foreign securities which involve greater volatility and political, economic and currency risks and differences in accounting methods. These risks are greater for investments in emerging markets. The funds may invest in the securities of smaller-capitalization companies, which may be more volatile than funds that invest in larger, more established companies. The performance of the funds may diverge from that of the index. Because the funds may employ a representative sampling strategy and may also invest in securities that are not included in the index, the funds may experience tracking error to a greater extent than funds that seek to replicate an index. The funds are not actively managed and may be affected by a general decline in market segments related to the index. Airline Companies may be adversely affected by a downturn in economic conditions that can result in decreased demand for air travel and may also be significantly affected by changes in fuel prices, labor relations and insurance costs. Gold, precious metals, and precious minerals funds may be susceptible to adverse economic, political or regulatory developments due to concentrating in a single theme. The prices of gold, precious metals, and precious minerals are subject to substantial price fluctuations over short periods of time and may be affected by unpredicted international monetary and political policies. We suggest investing no more than 5% to 10% of your portfolio in these sectors. Distributed by Quasar Distributors, LLC. U.S. Global Investors is the investment adviser to JETS and GOAU.

BUY GOLD ETF-s

05:57
GDX and GDXJ are most popular gold etf-s. BUY GOLD ETF-S VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF GDX GDX FUND DESCRIPTION GDX tracks a market-cap-weighted index of global gold-mining firms. GDX FACTSET ANALYTICS INSIGHT GDX is one of the most popular funds in the global gold-mining segment, a trading powerhouse with deep primary, secondary and derivatives markets. Following a 2013 overhaul of the fund’s index, GDX is no longer limited to US-listed firms, nor does it filter out firms that have hedged their gold exposure with derivatives. In addition, it includes firms mining other precious metals in addition to gold, so it’s not entirely pure-play gold miners. GDX includes all the major names, but the fund’s broader take on the gold-mining space means that the big firms get less weight than in our neutral benchmark. The fund is fairly priced, though real-world holding costs (measured by tracking difference) have sometimes been highly variable. As an industry benchmark, GDX falls a bit short, but it's still hugely popular and easy to trade. GDXJ VanEck Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF GDXJ is the younger brother of GDX, in name, exposure, and history. GDXJ covers precious-metals-mining firms below the market-cap cutoff for GDX—the 'junior' mining firms (including those mining platinum, silver or palladium). Its portfolio typically has more market risk due to the riskier nature of these smaller miners. The fund's average P/E has often gone into negative territory, a tribute to the fact that many of the firms in the portfolio currently generate no revenue, let alone earnings. Clearly, this is no place for the faint of heart. GDXJ has piggybacked on the success of GDX to the extent that it is among the largest and most liquid funds in the segment, although large investors will want to work with a market maker due to the less-liquid underlying portfolio. The fund is fairly priced and has tracked its index reasonably well, earning it a place on the Opportunities List.GDXJ's underlying index is expected to modify its rules to include larger companies on or around 6/17/2017.

He also mentions two gold stocks he likes at this time and what quant funds look for when buying gold stocks.

Andy Schectman- Precious Metals Market Anomalies #4264

25:22
Andy Schectman head of respected bullion dealer Miles Franklin joined us. Business is good. Perhaps more people are looking for the ultimate safe haven that precious metals afford. We examined several precious metals market anomalies and there are lot more. The gold silver ratio at around 84-1 is completely out of whack. The premium on junk silver is running less than one percent. Platinum prices are at generational lows when compared to gold and palladium. And finally, the palladium price is higher than gold and almost double that of platinum. What's going on here and how long can it go on? And last but not least, JP Morgan Chase has accumulated nearly 1 billion ounces of silver, the largest hoard ever assembled. Why would they be accumulating this barbarous relic, along with mining stocks, SLV and other silver ETF's. Some might dare call it manipulation; they've won every single metals trade they've made for years.

Investing In Gold & Silver Mining Companies | Leanne Baker

46:27
Full Description and comments at: https://www.peakprosperity.com/podcast/108856/leanne-baker-investing-gold-silver-mining-companies For precious metals investors looking to increase their exposure to this asset class beyond owning bullion or gold and silver ETFs, mining companies are a natural consideration. Their prices usually move much more dramatically in response to smaller price moves in the underlying metals they mine. In a bull market, it's very possible for the share prices of these companies to increase by hundreds of percents within a year or two. But there are a lot of gold and silver mining companies out there, many of which are small operators. Risk abounds in this sector. And for the past half-decade, most of these companies have been absolute widow-makers for investors. How do we identify which companies are worth considering and which should be avoided? How (if at all) should the small investor go about gaining exposure to precious metals mining companies? To address this, Dr. Leanne Baker, former mining analyst at Solomon Smith Barney and current director of Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd, joins the podcast this week. Gold Miners ETFs Besieged by Outflows

04:11
https://goo.gl/QPCkqk - Start earning with binary options like millions of traders do Although the U.S. dollar has recently traded flat, commodities of all stripes are slumping, and that includes precious metals. Even gold has been wilting while the dollar dithers. For example, the SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) is off nearly 3 percent this week. With a few more bad days, GLD and rival gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) could erase what is left of their year-to-date gains. Things are worse for gold miners ETFs, including the group's two largest – the VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX) and the VanEck Vectors Junior Gold Miners ETF (GDXJ). Investors are taking notice and are scampering out of gold miners ETFs at a rapid pace. Outflows have picked up a bit in the largest gold miner equity fund (GDX) this week, with more than $1 billion leaving the fund via redemption flows thus far, said Street One Financial Vice President Paul Weisbruch in a recent note. (See also: GDX: Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF.) Investors are also fleeing GDXJ, the junior miners ETF. GDXJ has also been pressured lately with some outflows ($370 million out). Both funds have fallen precipitously in recent sessions, and are under selling pressure again this morning (GDX trading at its lowest level since mid-March) on lower gold prices lately, adds Weisbruch. (See also: GDX versus GDXJ.) Over the past month, GDX is off 10 percent, meaning the ETF is in correction territory. GDX, the largest gold miners ETF, is clinging to a year-to-date gain of less than 1 percent. As for GDXJ, that ETF's year-to-date performance is now dismal at a loss of 6 percent. With a loss of almost 20 percent over just the past month, the junior gold miners ETFs is close to entering a new bear market. Losses for the miners ETFs far surpass those of gold-backed ETFs. GLD, the world's largest ETF backed by physical holdings of gold, is off just 2.4 percent over the past month. Investors are sticking by GLD, but the same cannot be said of GDX and GDXJ. Since the start of the second quarter, investors have allocated $869 million to GLD. However, outflows from GDX and GDXJ are $1.48 billion and $625.4 million, respectively. Interestingly, the U.S. dollar has been trading flat as of late, so we are not quite sure what to make of this recent sudden sell-off in gold and other precious metals, as silver for instance has not been spared in the past couple weeks either, said Weisbruch. The iShares Silver Trust (SLV), the largest silver ETF, is in the midst of a lengthy losing streak and is now in correction territory with a one-month loss of 11 percent. All That Glitters Top 3 Silver ETFs of 2017

06:00
https://goo.gl/QPCkqk - Start earning with binary options like millions of traders do Whenever the market experiences its cyclical cataclysms of heady ups and downs, leery investors turn to precious metals. It's safe to say that 2017 is shaping up to be one of those years. That being said, there's a good argument to be made for diversifying your portfolio with commodities such as silver, which is in high demand in many different industries: consumer electronics, automobile manufacturing, solar energy and housing, to name a few. (See also: A Beginner's Guide to Precious Metals.) Actually owning precious metals, however, is a hassle that many investors would prefer to avoid. Fortunately, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) offer an easy way to gain exposure to this relatively volatile commodity. There are several silver and silver-mining funds that do a good job of tracking the metal's gains and losses. If you're interested in adding silver to your portfolio, these three silver-backed ETFs are a good place to start. (See also: How Safe Are Gold and Silver Investments?) All year-to-date (YTD) performance figures are from the period Jan. 1, 2017, through July 14, 2017. Funds were selected on the basis of both performance and assets under management (AUM). All figures were current as of July 15, 2017. iShares MSCI Global Silver Miners ETF (SLVP) Issuer: BlackRock Assets Under Management: $59.8 million YTD Performance: 2.13% Expense Ratio: 0.39% This fund aims to track the MSCI ACWI Select Silver Miners Investable Market Index, and it is closely correlated to the price of silver. The fund has a global outlook, investing in mining companies all over the world. It currently holds positions in 30 different companies in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The fund is tilted toward large-cap mining companies. Canada-based Silver Wheaton Corporation (SLW) accounts for nearly 24% of its holdings. SLVP is a relatively new fund, with an inception date of January 2012. Its one-year and three-year performance figures are -28.71% and -5.73%, respectively. The fund's reasonable expense ratio, especially for a sector-specific fund, also makes it attractive. (See also: The World's Top 5 Silver Mining Companies.) iShares Silver Trust (SLV) Issuer: BlackRock Assets Under Management: $5.52 billion YTD Performance: -1.59% Expense Ratio: 0.50% sponsor fee It is important to note straight away that SLV is not a typical ETF. As the prospectus notes, The assets of the Trust consist primarily of silver held by a custodian on behalf of the Trust, which means that the fund will purely reflect the price movements of silver. Investors purchase shares in the physical silver held by the trust, and the fund charges a 0.50% annual sponsor fee to hold the silver. If you want pure exposure to silver without storing bullion in your safe, this is the way to go. The fund currently holds about 336 million ounces of silver in trust. Its one-year, three-year and five-year performance figures are -23.31%, -10.24% and -10.90%, respectively. (See also: One

Precious Metal ETFs in Focus

Precious metal ETFs have been in the spotlight lately. Rising geopolitical risks have increased the appeal of some of these funds as safe-haven investments. Video Break Down [email protected] 0:00 [email protected] 1:43 Charting [email protected] 2:17 During this segment I will forecast,& anticipate the discombobulation from Current price, $10.13 I am expecting a discombobulation for all those reasons I had discussed. Place your bests, players. I expect for the trading day session of 5/11/2018 that this baby is going down,& maybe test those metrics. Place your bets! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: THIS VIDEO IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT,& PARODY PURPOSES ONLY. PAST PERFORMANCE IS NO GUARANTEE OF FUTURE RESULTS! THIS VIDEO IS 100% COMEDY,& STUPID ENTERTAINMENT.THIS VIDEO IS NOT INVESTMENT,& OR TRADING ADVICE; ASSUME I DON'T KNOW A GOD DAMN THING ABOUT TRADING/DAY TRADING/CHARTING OR ANY OF THIS TECHNICAL ANALYSIS BULL SHIT CONSULT YOUR LICENSED FINANCIAL ADVISER/STOCKBROKER/ FINANCIAL PLANNER REGISTERED WITH FINRA/SEC,& SIPC FOR ALL OF YOUR INVESTMENT,& CONSULTATION ADVICE. WANT MY ADVICE? STAY AWAY FROM UNLICENSED YOU-TUBE BOZOS ,& HACK CLOWN ADVISERS OF YOU-TUBE THAT ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF SELLING TRADING ROOMS,& USELESS NEWS LETTER SERVICES THAT DO NOT HOLD A FIDUCIARY RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU,& IN MY OPINION SUCH SERVICES WILL NOT DO A GOD DAMN THING TO HELP YOU BECOME A BETTER TRADER/INVESTOR, AND IN MY HUMBLE OPINION REAL TRADERS DON'T SELL SERVICES,BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS TRADE. SELLING SERVICES IS FOR LOSERS. BOTTOM LINE,THERE'S NO NEED TO PAY ANYONE A FEE BASED SERVICE FEE TO LEARN ANY OF THE THINGS OF WHICH I HAD DISCUSSED REGRADING CHARTING,BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY OPEN SOURCED (FREE) INFORMATION OUT THERE TO GLEAN SOUND GOOD INFORMATION FROM, OH,& STAY AWAY FROM TRADING ROOM SERVICES, BECAUSE YOU ARE BETTER OFF ON YOUR OWN AS A NEWBIE OR OTHERWISE THIS IS A FACT TRADER DATA HAS SHOWN THAT TRADING ROOM SERVICES IN GENERAL,& NEWS LETTERS TEND NOT TO BE PROFITABLE FOR THE AVERAGE TRADERS,BUT ALWAYS PROFITABLE FOR THE HOSTS THAT RUN SUCH TRADING ROOMS/NEWS LETTERS; FEES ARE MADE OFF RUNNING TRADING ROOM SERVICES NOT ACTUALLY TRADING,& THIS IS MY OPINION. WHY?BECAUSE REAL TRADERS TRADE;THEY DON'T HOST OR TEACH TRADING.THANK YOU. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bottom Line. MY Job is to discourage you from learning any of this Technical Analysis Garbage,& to discourage you from learning to trade. Why? because I have seen many good people learn this crap or think they have learned this crap, but end up getting hurt,& losing all of their money. why? because Trading/investing is very hard,& learning TA is not a guarantee that if you apply any of the rules of TA such as learning about moving averages, trend lines,DOM's,Fibs,or learn about indicators such as CCI,RSI macd etc etc etc ,take your pick, you will make money, there's no guarantee,& in fact you could lose all your money even after learning this crap.Technical Analysis does not lead to profitability, but is there a chance that if you learn this crap & the basics,& apply the rules of basic or advanced TA that you will make money? sure, but it's most likely that you will lose more money trading/investing than you could ever make/earn,& in the long term as long as you have exposure you will lose it all. The Great majority of would be traders fall into the 95% camp of losers. Most traders/investors that lack true guidance end up as failed traders/investors. Man, you have to understand that it's only a very small percentage of like 5% of traders/investors that are able to beat the market,& make money,& show profitability year after year, but those traders/investors are not using TA,but let's get back to you; you will never be able to be in that 5% camp of winners,so this I know for a fact,so forget about learning to day trade, because you won't be able to apply what you think you had learned. Man, I've seen an all too many horror stories of those would be traders that have no business learning to trade, but are encouraged to trade anyway, because some YouTube clown told them to. Folks we are talking major discombobulation here.
