what would you say of how long is the process of self-publishing with Blurb? And can you get a free ISBN with the service?
Tomato Edits (8 months ago)
Can you use this to sell real physical copies? Not just ebooks
Vida loca (10 months ago)
you talk too much as a bitch and you should goo directly to the subject !!
Clark Griswald (1 year ago)
Blurb has changed their system so you have to use a program called Book Wright now - much more difficult than it used to be.

I’m having a hard to finding out how to get my trade book listed on Amazon. Seems like it’s harder to put a trade book there than it was a photo book.

Kudos for the video content! Apologies for the intrusion, I would appreciate your thoughts. Have you heard about - Tarbbatigan ebook master Tip (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one off guide for learning how to create an ebook minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate at very last got great results with it.

There are several components to making money online. One place I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Mackynzie magic method (check it out on google) it's the most helpful resource i've heard of. look at all the great info .

Do you know anyone that can make good book covers?
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+MysteryGirl 11 Absolutely. Try fiverr.com and elance.com and upwork.com to get great designers. I also have tutorials on all of those websites.

Dear all, thanks for your great work at Blurb. It gives a whole news dimension to self-publishing and a bunch of new possibilities too. I wonder how people can say that books and publishing are dead ! I an trying to publish a book my late father wrote 30 years ago... He had ony one published a few years before... It would be a great Xmas phase for my Mum ! Onty, I'v trier ton import the text in RTF format and all the french letters with accents seem to be doubled in the process : établi (established) woud become éétabli and so on. Any solution ? You do non seen to have a plug-un for Quarq Xpress, don't you ? Too Bad :-(
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Herve Cassagne Herve, I'm afraid I don't work for Blurb! So I'm not your best guy for tech support - perhaps you could try them directly at blurb.com

I have 28,000 words in this software and it keeps crashing when I edit how the paragraphs sit. So frustrating. This is an important work and when I [select all] and copy and paste into Microsoft word, the formatting is terrible. I'm literally at a stand still because I'm doing more recovering from crashes and/or re-doing my whole project between these two programs with the layout and line spacing. I need your honest advice. Should I just stop using this windows version of BookSmart and write the rest of my 30,000 words in Microsoft word? I need some supportive advice. Thankyou.
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Robert Laster Great question. We use the BookSmart application for small projects only. We use the Plugin for In-Design for larger, more elaborate and important projects. If you don't have / can't use InDesign, you can find great freelancers to help you via elance - here's a video on that particular tool - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdwXZvaXXeg
Yvonne Leehelen Dowell (3 years ago)
I want to publish my poetry. Can I add stock photos and pulis  it as a tradebook?
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Yvonne Leehelen Dowell Great question, Yvonne. The Blurb engine can certainly handle text and graphics without any problems. You can go color or black and white to reduce cost. Regarding images, it's all about the license. For example, we buy graphics from 123rf.com and get the right license to publish. If you have your own illustrations you're also OK. If you're not sure, check in with the web site you bought the stock images from - again - all about the license!
Robert Laster (3 years ago)
Thank you for this video. My software is a tad bit different than yours. Maybe a upgraded version,.What's the preferred aspect ratio for the cover in this program?
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Robert Laster No problem. Let me know if I can help one way or another. And hey - feel free to send a link to the new book when it's out! I'm always interested.
Robert Laster (3 years ago)
...actually that page is eluding to the size of the trade book and it's different options. No problem. Thnx for your video brotha'. /Rob'
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Robert Laster Robert, the folks at Blurb are updating their software all the time. I'm sure that accounts for the changes you're noticing. In the mean time, I found this helpful page on cover sizes / ratios - http://www.blurb.com/trade-books
Robert Laster (3 years ago)
I added page numbers in top corner and want to switch to bottom corner. I cant seem to take the top corner page numbers go away. !!! HELP !!!
Robert Laster (3 years ago)
Sure. but I actually figured it out already. The only question I have now is what would be the recommended aspect ratio of cover art? I can easily figure that out as well by importing different sizes and seeing which will not bring up that !!alert!!. Thankyou though.
Tim Levy (3 years ago)
+Robert Laster Robert, perhaps we should get you in touch with Blurb's support team for this. Would you be open to that? I have some connections there that might be open to supporting you through this.

If i were to publish my comic book, should I use the photobook, or the blank?
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
Justin, good question. If I was doing a color comic book, chances are I'd publish using a photo book to get precise image control. However, the price is high. If you were happy with black and white inside, I'd use one of the paperback formats which can also take graphics. They're much cheaper. Does that help?

Khalid Kamal (4 years ago)
My word manuscript has the pictures already set up, it has been reviewed by a professional book editor, it has been set up in the manner of a book (off-set left and right margins) pagination, title and chapter identification, cover page in .psd file etc. Can I bring both these items into book smart and set it up to Blurb specifications?
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
Great question, Khalid. Thanks for getting in touch. I have certainly used Word to set up books, including images and imported them into Book Smart. And book smart is getting better all the time with new versions and sophistication. Having said that, I've always found Book Smart to be a bit of a beginner's option. It often requires a lot of detailed adjustment to get what you really want. Instead, my designers do everything in Adobe InDesign working with the Blurb plugin to conform to Blurb specifications. That's what I'd recommend. Does that help?

Great promotion. Sell a lot of books?
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
Thank you. It's part of the traffic ecosystem we've built. Between this, our social media, search engine and business pieces we're doing very well, thank you. Our traffic, in particular, is growing beyond our expectations. We're up about 5500% in 6 months or so. For example, a lot of people who watch this video wind up interested in the Fast Book Handbook - which is online here - http://www.timlevy.net/fastbook

+Tim Levy Again a million thanks. I received a call from Zo Silver, they are having a problem with the conversion. He's going to send me instructions on how to trouble shoot. He was apologetic for the struggle I experienced. Hopefully we will get it figured out. This will be a valuable component of my business, I hope it all works out for the best. Thank you Thank Thank you. Bless you sir!
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
+Girls Best Friend and Co You're all kinds of welcome. Let's see what they do, eh?
+Tim Levy You are so amazing! Thank you. I am really speechless Mr. Levy. I have a Wardrobe Consulting business. We develop wardrobes for our clients, each client receives a customized Lookbook of the looks we create. She can either have a hardcover or an ebook. I use Photoshop and Indesign to create these books. My graphics designer referred me to Blurb. Customer Service is the problem. No one want to take ownership. I received multiple emails from Cathy M.If she would only make an effort to resolve the issue through consistant followup, the problem would have been remedied the first week. I came from a corporate background, I am familiar with corporate cultural. From my experience Mr. Levy, the employee's really could careless. I don't take it personal, I just realize something is failing. I am building a business, there are several parts I must manager. Customer service is vital. I see that you recognize the importance. I cannot thank you enough. Clients just want to be acknowledge. You have made me feel acknowledge. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
OK. I've been emailing on your behalf and they've been very responsive. I've spoken to Eileen, who is the CEO and Donna, who runs Operations (I think). So you should be hearing from them ASAP as they look into this. They even contacted Eileen on holidays, who took the time to respond. I've always found Blurb to be very responsive. Please keep me in the loop.
I have had the most horrible experience with Blurb. You can look up my twitter account to see screen shot of my month long email correspondence with Blurb regarding my 1st and only order.
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
OK. Let me see what I can do for you.
+Tim Levy Sir my twitter account is @TheFashionistachik If you check my photos. I have screenshots of one month of email conversations with Cathy M. I tweeted to blurb on twitter. I screenshot where Ron C closed my case saying he was going to pass it back to Cathy. I am a business owner, if my people behaved in this manner they would no longer work for me. I create lookbooks for each and every client, I need the service. I use InDesign, so it really makes sense, but I have never in my entire life had such a horrible experience. I worked in business development for 12 years, dealing with many departments. I have had my share of bad service. But never like this, Cathy M. should be unemployed. There are people out there dying for a job, who will provide stellar customer service. I have inters who have more pride about the work they provide. ITS CRAZY. CHECK MY TWITTER AND LOOK AT PHOTOS. I HAVE 3 OR 4 SCREENSHOTS OF MY CORRESPONDENCE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE. I will have to call my bank, which will give them a charge back and ultimately increase their discount rate for master card and visa. It may even lead to them having their funds held in security with their credit card processor.. I would encourage you to allow the CEO TO READ THIS MESSAGE. If my clients had this experience I would be bending over backwards to make it right. You don't have to be active on twitter to see my feed.
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
Crikey! That's no good. As it happens, I know the CEO of Blurb, Eileen. It's been a while since we've spoken but I'm sure she'd be interested in what has happened. Perhaps you could send me some more information here (I'm not so active on Twitter).

Hi Tim, great intro to the Blurb BookSmart tool. They have a new tool called BookWright. Have you tried using it yet? If so, how does it compare? Thanks for a great video.
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
Brett, thanks for posting this here. I'm so sorry I'm taking so long to reply. I have to check out BookWright when I have the chance. We use the Blurb Plugin for InDesign to layout all of our manuscripts.
Tim Levy (4 years ago)
You're welcome - glad it was helpful.
