FOR CLEAN VERSION SEE STORY NUMBER: apus020869 Residents of Broad Ripple, Indiana are stunned after the brutal beheading of Peter Kassig, an American aid worker captured by Islamic State militants last year. Kassig was captured while delivering supplied to refugees in Syria. "It's a hideous, obnoxious, horrendous way for humanity to think that there are people who still use this way of action," said Dolly Hanna, a Broad Ripple resident. Kassig's parents, Ed and Paula said Sunday they are "heartbroken" by their son's death at the hands of militants, but are "incredibly proud" of his compassion and humanitarian work. President Barack Obama confirmed the slaying of Kassig after a U.S. review of the latest IS militant video, which also showed the mass beheadings of more than a dozen Syrian soldiers.
